Hellboy 2
This is the kind of film that embarrasses me; I found myself tearing up! I'm too cool for that, but somehow with a son of Satan and an amphibious man I'm allowed to. So much greatness on display, I'm tempted to indulge in inflated diction and hyperbole. This is the best film of the summer ,so far. Use whatever superlative you want; this film just kicks serious ass!!!
I think DEL TORO's films are a lot like CLIVE BARKER's NIGHTBREED; what do you think? |
Cant fucking wait to see this. I love the first one, but this looks like it'll kick it's ass.
Yeah, Del Toro and Barker share some similarities for sure....Del Toro does the monster thing better though, IMO. |
And guess what else...
It has 32 monsters. ... Yes, I said that right. THIRTY - TWO!! |
I heard it has the bride of frankenstein :) I'm kinda more excited for hellboy 2, than dark knight...... don't kill me.
|
What do you mean about 32 monsters?
HELLBOY has way more the 32 monsters; does CLIVE BARKER's NIGHTBREED have 32 monsters? The Jim Carrey movie is called 23. Enlighten me if you would.:) :D

I'm such a sucker for well-done beasties. |
It even has face hugger monsters :)

good times, but I liked the first two acts better than the third act, which is due entirtely to the creatures in each act.
The Tooth Faeries are scary as hell, The Forest Elemental is tragic and beautiful, but the Golden Army is a little blah in comparison. Almost a fantastic film, but I may grow to love it even more in repeated viewings. 8/10 |
Wow. And. WOW.
I was just ridiculously impressed. Hellboy 2 is the perfect summer blockbuster... With enough for even a movie snob such as myself. Amazing beasties (as noted by Rod) and some pretty slick action. That was the most fun I've had at the movies in a LONG time. I think I even enjoyed myself here more than I did at Ironman, which I also loved. Then again, I am a HUGE sucker for well-done beasties... And this movie was absolutely gorgeous. I definitely recommend it. A-/A |
Kick. ASS.
Watch it. NOW. Rating - * * * * ½ |

One of my major complaints about the first Hellboy was the lack of creatures, this one definitly makes up for it, I didn't know you could pack so many into one movie! Creatures aside I found evereything else about it excellent and better than the original.

HELLBOY beat HANCOCK!
I'm thrilled that HELLBOY II beat HANCOCK by almost 3 million! It grossed almost 36 million. A film this creative deserves to be a hit and HELLBOY is; It looks like we will definitely have a third film. I really don't like Will Smith and I'm glad HELLBOY stopped Hancock from being number one for a second week. I think HELLBOY will have legs because the word of mouth is great. Del Toro has officially arrived. HELLBOY is an original vision with themes that appeal to the outsider in all of us. We all sometimes feel different and alienated from the mainstream of society; I identify with many of the characters in this film.

I have to admit - i was hoping it would be better - i found it a bit uneven.
It's obvious Del Toro looks at these films differently from his other work ... hellboy 2 had a lot of the look he's been doing lately (a la Pans Labrynth) but this is a far more commercial film with more 'crowd pleasing' moments. I found it more than a little uneven and with too many directions being attempted. (some just didnt get the proper weight) I liked the angle of these extraordinary creatures trying to live like normal people ... i understand that there was an environmental angle as well. (respecting the earth - and losing the magic through progress... etc ... - thats the one that wasn't realized properly - just touched in here and there) I agree that the golden army itself was anticlimactic - and just not that interesting - as well as the projected resolution... but there were bits here and there i enjoyed. oddly - it made me appreciate the 1st one more. |
