This summer's Superhero movies

I'm listening to Opie and Anthony, and Opie just said that Iron Man was a better movie than The Dark Knight... And I dont knowhow to feel about that. I'm pretty sure I disagree, but between the Incredible Hulk, Iron Man and The Dark Knight, choosing the "best" one seems like it will come down more to opinion than any real quantative objective merits. (although TDK , to me is the best all-around movie; the others were great, but TDK has the most Oscar-worthy performances).

So, do we want to argue which one of the 3 was the best, or do we say that doing so would be splitting hairs, and since they are all in the 97-100 range on a scale of 1-100 that there is no point in arguing, and just love that 3 such monumentally awesome movies came out in one summer?

I think as a race we are to opinionated to live in such a happy utopia, but a man can dream. (those damn porcupines will probably show up and say something offensive...)

Abominus 09-18-2008 04:59 AM

In MY opinion lol Iron Man was engaging and enjoyable 100% of the time and the most satisfying of the three.

Dark Knight was amazing and the performances (Leger, Oldman, Bale and Cain) were mind-blowing

The Hulk was good only in that it was better than the Ang Lee mess. I thought it was mediocre. So 1 2 3.

The_Return 09-18-2008 07:18 AM

Absolutely loved all three of them, but Dark Knight is in a league of it's own.

All three are among the best superhero movies out there, but Iron Man and Incredible Hulk can't even hold a candle to TDK.

Dark Knight was the best hands down as far as i'm concerned.
as stated before, it transcends the Super Hero genre and is more a crime thriller. more complex - with a grand scope of interesting characters .. NOT just the amazing Joker.

Iron Man was next - but mainly due to Downey's spot on portrayal of Stark. The rest of the movie - to me - was forgettable - not much happened - it was a character study - not an action film.

The Hulk - well, it's something that's never really grabbed me. I thought it was well made - but after leaving the breathtaking (in a horrible way) scenes of the brazilian locations, i cant remember a single thing that happened in that movie.

Dark knight was something i'll watch again and again.

GorePhobia 09-18-2008 07:40 AM

It is The Dark Knight for me as well. There was so much that made that film such a beautiful movie and the other two like Iron Man and Hulk even though were fun and such they never really had scenes that stuck in my mind that I still think about right now.

I didn't watch the other ones, The Dark Knight was good but far from the masterpiece everyone here makes it out to be.

The Hulk----haven't seen it yet.

I'm going with this.......but a second viewing on both may change my mind.

It's probably because I'm not a batman fan

Because I didnt see that one..... much to my dismay.

The Mothman 09-18-2008 12:07 PM

I didnt either, however I didnt enjoy the first one.

The_Return 09-18-2008 12:32 PM

Shit, I forgot all about Hellboy II - deserves to be on the list for sure.

I'd rank them as follows:

1) Dark Knight
2) TIE - Iron Man + Hellboy II: The Golden Army
3) The Incredible Hulk

Even if you weren't fond of the first one, you should see Hellboy II. Of the 4 movies it has the best visuals, hands down. Simply stunning, and some of the actions scenes are badass beyond reason. The plot is a little bit thin in parts, but all in all it's just a really fun movie that's absolutely beautiful to watch.

I really enjoyed the first one, but the sequel kicks its little red ass.

urgeok2 09-18-2008 12:41 PM

i never think of Hellboy as a super hero guy ..

probably because he wasnt around when i was into comics

roshiq 09-18-2008 12:43 PM

Hellboy2 wasn't up to the mark but i enjoyed that too. Surly TDK was the best and then comes Iron man & Incredible Hulk but I like to say that overall we are glad to have a superb year of excellent superhero movies (please don't count the filthy spoof Superhero movie on this!).

ferretchucker 09-18-2008 01:09 PM

I lost all interest in hellboy 20 minutes into the first film.

I think they're too different to be compared to each other in any way other than what you'd rather watch again. For me it goes:

Dark Knight
Iron Man
Incredible Hulk

Each had faults and merits of their own. And though it was an excellent film, I have to agree with MD.

jaybomb 09-19-2008 05:59 AM

Haven't seen The Hulk or Iron Man, so gonna go with The Dark Knight. Not a fan of batman in the past and still loved the movie, it had everything a movie should have, great story, great action, great acting

Kemal 09-21-2008 03:48 PM

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet but I've heard there is to be a new Punisher movie, unrelated to the one of a few years ago. I'm not into comics but I was always kind of partial to the Punisher's character.

It looks pretty badass, IMO. It'll be super bloody, mindless and over the top violent...but if the trailer's any indication, it could be one of the best pure action movies in a long while.

Okay, im not through it yet because youtube keeps stopping to buffer it, but I was sold BEFORE I got to the chair leg in the eyesocket move. i am officially sold and completely stoked now...

Update: Finished it. Holy hell, a marvel movie with an R rating... The trailer alone had upwared of 5 head explosions (or at least partial head explosions). That look sincredible, thanks for the link :D

Okay, this got me even more pumped. The one quote on the IMDB page:
"Sometimes, I would like to get my hands on God."
