Horror Plays?

Pretty sure this is the wrong thread, but horror movies, comics and tv shows wasn't the best place either.

I'm curious. Are there any horror plays out? Or were there any horror films created based off a certain horror play. Now they don't have to be concrete horror, because I saw one in the spring (I can't remember the name) but it was filled with suspense and ambiguity; and was very reminiscent of the Exorcist. So if there are any, post them.

Well I was assuming besides classics....more contemporary ones....but isn't that an Opera anyway?

Tod Browning's version of Dracula was pretty much a filmed version of the 1927 Broadway hit starring Lugosi. No singing involved. You're probably thinking of Andrew Lloyd (I'll rape any subject for a hit) Webber's Phantom. Of course, there's Rocky Horror, also, which started on stage.

Hmmm...thanks. Nice touch on Andrew's middle name. Oh, how I love the originality in that name! hahaha:) Any other reccomendations?

Why yes, glad you asked.

There's Victor Frankenstein/Victoria Frankenstein about a mad scientist struggling with his sexual identity, Tennesee Williams' lesser known steamy Southern melodrama Cat People on a Hot Tin Roof and Last House on the Left: The Musical starring Joel Grey and Tommy Tune. The turkey baster chorus line is really spectacular!*

*by the way, I'm fucking with you! :)

Joking about being serious...hey in the thread "I'm awesome, but I suck" I said I suck at humor--no one reads through my humor...I try to get better...maybe I should just give it up, huh?

I'm curious about REPO! The Genetic Opera.

I guess it's supposed to be a modern-day Rocky Horror.

Pretty psyched about the film (whenever it comes out), but the stage play sounds like a blast.

There's also American Psycho, The Musical:

Equus

The Children's Hour

The Devils

You can research Grand Guignol, which was a French theatre movement that specialized in gruesome effects. Sweeney Todd was first done as a Grand Guignol piece, and there were some adaptations of Frankenstein. Here's a good resource:

Wait Until Dark

There's a stage musical adaptation of Plan 9 From Outer Space

Hamlet

MacBeth

The Metamorphosis

In the grand tradition of the theatre there are hundreds, thousands of plays that could be considered to have horrific elements. Those are just a few I can think of off the top of my head.

there are a couple original plays here with horror in them, if you care to check them out:

Oh cool....I've read and seen the stage versions of Equus and The Children's Hour. I never knew they were horror. Just thought it had lots of suspense, but not horror. Wow. I'll check out the others.

Good...yeah the only difference though is that I didn't mention ambiguity in the last post. ;)

Not to me.....very different? Yes, quite so. But scary? Not really--to me anyway.

Little Johnny's Big Gay Musical looks pretty scary.

Susan Stroman, according to the site- http://www.youngfrankensteinthemusical.com/

unless you want to know who directed the film it's based on. That would be Mel Brooks.

Has Googling become some sort of dying artform?

By the way, novakru, that is one fudged up looking Peter Boyle. Hope he looks better on stage.

That's the actor that walks around advertising the musical.:)
But I wouldn't put it past the company to send out the understudy to do that sort of thing....just to show who's place is where:D
