Best Male Vocalists?
Layne Staley. Discuss.
|
Quote:
Rob Halford really takes the cake. Crazy range and total power! |
Maynard James Keenan, powerful voice.
Layne Staley was God though. |
Geoff Tate is good
DIO...fucking rules no better white boy blues singer then Greg Allman |
Among the hundreds I like... how about Mike Patton?
So many good male vocalists out there though, I can't get enough of David Bowie's voice and Bing Crosby's has always been a favorite of mine. |

Oh, i'm sorry, but ol' Stevie Ray always wins for blues. |
Bon Fucking Scott!

Yup, definitely Rob Halford with Bruce Dickinson following a CLOSE second (but a lot of that is personal taste...as they are arguably equals).
Halford also gets points for actually sounding BETTER as he gets older, which is fucking insane. -D |
Frank Sinatra.
|
As Christmas comes around I've been listening to a lot of Bing Crosby whose voice is wonderful.

I also love...Cedric Bixler-Zavala, Brandon Boyd, Josh Homme and Serj Tankian. |

And Nancy Sinatra for best female! Who's with me? Come on! "These boots were made for....." Jessica Simpson, ANOTHER talent remade her song and.... Hell, anyway, Frank was a God too. Harry Connick and Michael Buble' only wish they were frank (no tthat I am knocking either) |
Wait, we can't forget the great and late
FREDDIE MERCURY |
I'm gonna say Kurt Cobain is MY FAVORITE vocalist. I'm not going to state it as fact. I'm simply amazed at the pain in his voice, especially "Pennyroyal Tea" where he sounds like he's about to burst into tears whenever the hook comes back around.

Maynard James Keenan is definitely my favourite.
Dio is very good too. Also love John Lennon, Freddy Mercury, David Draiman, and Ian Gillan. |
I definitely agree, Layne was the best!
|
My favourites would be:
-Raine Maida -Chad Gray -David Draiman -Myles Kennedy -Dave Grohl |
Todd Lewis (the toadies)
Nikola Sarcevic (Millencolin) Zach De La Rocha (Rage Against the Machine, One Day as a Lion) Matt Maheffy (Self) |
I'm gonna throw Jack White from The White Stripes/Raconteurs in there. His voice is great and original. a bit of old country music with a newer 'art school' vibe.
|
Jim Morrison
|
Tobias Sammet (Edguy)
Steve Perry (Journey) Lol Mason (City Boy) Russell Allen (Symphony X) |
Bruce Dickinson and Ronnie James Dio
|
glenn hughes

DANZIG!!! I remember hearing Mother and thought it was Billy Idol then I found out it was Danzig. Danzig is the man. I love lower crooning voices I.E Danzig, Morrison,Elvis.
Def Agree with Layne Stayley and Bowie. Bon Scott and Brain Johnson sound the same. One of the few higher pitched voices I like. Johnny Cash, Robert Plant, Dave Mustaine, Eddy Vedder. Love Josh homme he's got a lower crooner voice that I love. Also Agree with Jack White, very original and quirky. |
