Gonna need a new job
So anyone that knows me has heard me complain about my job, well the shit has litterally hit the fan. For a while we've all had people in the offices to give us a heads up when something stupid was about to happen. "Cash your check fast, we're short on payroll." or "Be ready, they didn't pay the electric bill/cable bill/water bill" whatver.
We never lost water or power (surprisingly) but the cable and internet were always an issue. A hotel full of people that all want to check their email at the same time can be an ugly thing. Most of our housekeeping was functionally retarded at best, and after a few office layoffs, they were the next in line for the hatchet. I think we have like three housekeepers left. The restaurant had most of the kitchen equipment repossessed because they stopped paying the supply company the leased it from. Same thing with the guest coffee station, the repossessed the coffee maker. We have to use a regular 12 cup coffee pot and most of the people here can't make coffee if it's not in pre-measured pouches and refuse to read directions. Idiots! We caught wind from someone in the offices about two months ago, that the bank was going to take us over and maybe shut us down. They took control of the property on Monday. Since then, no one has seen or heard from any manager. We haven't seen anyone from the bank. We just show up, punch in, and seem to be completely unsupervised and forgotten about. The funny thing is, it hasn't changed anything around here one bit. It's kind of weird to wonder if there is going to be a job for you to do when you get to work every day, or if the doors will be locked. When it happens (maybe tomorrow, maybe not) I won't be surprised, maybe a little disappointed though. I just wanted to ramble for a while and Rayne has to hear it all the time. At least you guys can stop reading when you get tired of it. :D |
That totally sucks.
Are you looking? |
I am looking, just not too seriously yet. I know that with my solid work history and the good refrences I will have, I can pretty much move on to any other hotel in the area (maybe not The Hampton or The Hilton). The thing is I don't know if I want to stay in the hotel business, but after 3 1/2 years that's where I have the most experience.
I've been thinking about it a lot and I just don't know yet. |
hey I wanna get out of the club business and get into the hotel business, we should trade.

is it a fancy hotel? are there bellhops?

Not even close. On any given night you get truck drivers, groups of drunk people, crack heads. We've had to have prostitues escorted off the property a few times, a lot of random people off of the interstate.
It's about as far from fancy as you can get and the closest you get to a bellhop would be the guy that drives the airport shuttle...if you're lucky. |

Lose weight, cut my hair, be a snob. I just can't see any of those things happening..........ever.

I'd start seriously looking. I'm in a bad work situation myself. My boss is a undereducation moronic jerk who i just found out why lying to us that we were being audited, when we actually aren't. On top of that, because of the economy, they have frozen all positions and there will be no raises for at least two years. After 6 months of seriously looking I finally have an interview scheduled. It's never taken me this long to find a job. The market is crap right now.

had i known that a couple of years ago - i could have seriously helped you. One of my best friends is at a very high level in that business - where you live - or he was .. he since went to Whistler .. and i think he's moving yet again from there |
My place is in a bit of trouble as well. Verrrrryyy slooooowww. Many layoffs. I've been here for 22 years......not gonna be easy if it closes down.
I may have to switch to cheaper beer  |
Thats shit hearing about your jobs.
I went through something similar 8 years ago, the job I had was a good one but I never felt secure there, never saw a safe long term job so started applying. I now drive choo choo trains for a living and my old place of work looks like its closing down after years of downsizing. Look for something asap Dude, dont be a passenger when it comes to your job. Newb, Im hoping you dont have probs with you job but I cant believe you would compromise on beer choice  |

Hmm...Something is afoot at the hotel...
Dustin is on the phone with my sister (Dustin hired her to work at the hotel last year) I'm hearing things from his end of the phonecall like: "Definitely something to think about" "I would accept the manager position if someone was actually going to run it right and pay the bills" (he has turned down the manager position many times in the past - for obvious reasons) "Well, I'm going in tonight, if they want to meet me, I'll be there" "Are they taking over as actual owners?" Sounds pretty interesting...Dustin may not be going anywhere after all |

Good luck for that, could be an interesting 24 hours! |

From what I hear so far, they are offering anyone who stays a 10% raise. Although they aren't going to take taxes out of our checks which means I have to pay out in the end, not sure if I want the hassle. On the other hand, with everyone quitting they are going to need someone who knows what they are doing. I could be in a good spot if they don't end up closing it down. I guess I'll see what happens. |

Like Scouse said, a very "interesting 24 hours"...And then an equally interesting next few weeks. |
Just found out that another desk clerk has decided to stay, at least for a while. I feel a little better about the situation now. She is one of the few that really knows what she's doing.

So far so good. I haven't met the new boss yet, but so far everyone likes him. Everyone except for the old manager's grandaughter, but she's immature and lacks respect for everyone so she won't last long.
They tell that he was in here earlier passing out cash and credit cards so each department could get the supplies they needed, that really is a nice change. I hear he has all sorts of plans to get this place up and running again. I'm curious to see how this works out. |
Awesome news. Good luck!

Lately, I've known a lot of people getting short, fake jumps. Myself included. The bank charged me a $180 overdraft that they fixed, putting my account into a positive but told me they filed the paperwork when they hadn't yet. I got a rice crispy treat from the speedway and overdrafted again. Then I called and it got fixed again. Then, I had nightmares for days on end that I had done my girlfriend's taxes wrong and then received a rejected notice, because it turned out I forgot to list the cents column of last year's income. Then, I thought I'd lost a job I was working on, but it turned out somebody else was being reprimanded and I got the email.
|
Man- what a bunch of nightmares!
