Help for a book?

Hello! My name's Kate Long and I'm a UK author (also published in the US), and I wondered whether I could pick your brains for the novel I'm currently writing.

My main character's a 23 year old woman who's a big fan of apocalypse-type films and especially zombie ones. She's making a list of her scariest zombie moments and they include scenes that aren't necessarily gory, eg the clip where Riq stands on the bridge looking at the empty railway tracks in Channel 4's 'Dead Set'. (That gave me the creeps because there was that sense of society broken down already, and we were right on the cusp of the horror.) However, I'm struggling as it's a while since I've watched any zombies excepting 'Land of the Dead' on Sunday, and I've never seen a lot of the newer films like 'Zombieland'.

Has anyone any suggestions? I'd be delighted to credit individuals and the forum in the acknowledgements section, if you like (or not, as you wish). But it would be so much better if the list came out of real fans, as opposed to my honestly rather amateur research.

Many thanks

Kate

You want a list of post apocalypic films with Zombies in them (or just Zombie films).

Or do you want a list of clips from the above films..

Memorable clips, please. Or even just striking images.

Jim walking through an empty London in 28 Days Later, the BestBuy TV Salesman dude from Dawn of the Dead (remake) standing on the pier at the end of the film, and the burning pile of corpses in Night of the Living Dead (remake). Any good?

Exactly the sort of thing I was after! Thank you.

Any others?

Hi Kate,
My 1st post on here!

There are several great moments from "Grindhouse" > Planet Terror, that you might find worthwhile.

In "The Last Man on Earth" there are some striking images of the burned out world, desolate, empty. It's really quite creepy.

The last scene of Resident Evil.

The whole effect is really fantastic. One of the best modern-day endings of any zombie film.

Many thanks Can you let me know a couple of details of Grindhouse and TLMOE? And can you let me know how and if you want a mention in the acknowledgements of my book when it comes out? (PM me is you'd prefer).

I'm not sure if it helps but you could check out The Omega Man, its a classic end of the world situation and moves such as I Am Legend pay homage to it.

Fantastic, isn't it? Thanks for reminding me.

Please, folks, let me know if you want a mention in the acknowledgements section of the novel, and if so, under what name.

Start of Dawn of the Dead remake, the young zombie girl standing in the bedroom doorway.

Land of the Dead has a good one, the undead emerging from the river surrounding the city.

Kate Long 06-26-2010 02:10 PM

Oh, yes, both of those!

diary of the dead

i saw a movie called Diary of the Dead, basically kids going on a trip were recording zombie activities... there is a scene where people at a party had turned into zombies and as they were walking they fell into a pool. being as they are already dead, they were just standing around in the pool. it was a quick and simple looking scene but it was actually quite interesting. i took the scene as: the zombies were going after one thing, and they had no clues to their surrounding. so even though they were stuck in a pool and didn't know how to get out, they were unaware that they were there in the first place. you see? that movie was full of cool zombie scenes.. you should check it out if you have not already. and be sure to check out the sequel to that one, its calld Day of the Dead.. its the movie all over again but from a different character's point of view. the two movies merge in the middle. its really cool..
