Help me (im new) searching for classics!
I am looking for any horror films, pre-1970, may be B-film, C-film or Z-film, or a masterpiece, probably hammer, as i prefer British horror, but not exclusive, but there is one demand. I want any film that features a drawn castle, or mansion, for example like in the film Blood of the Vampire (1958). It can appear only briefly, as long as there is, i'll take it!
Thanks! |
For Hammer I would recommend The Mummy, The Curse of Frankenstein, The Revenge of Frankenstein, The Gorgon, The Tomb of Ligeia, The Abominable Snowmen, The Horror of Dracula, The Quatermass Experiment. I think all of those are pre 70's Hammer.

P.S.:
Aha, Or like the intro credits drawing in the film you mentioned; The Gorgon 1964! A good example! |
Oh I'm sorry my attention is divided between football and this and I read what you were asking wrong, my bad.
|
Also, Tomb of Ligeia is not a Hammer film.
|
One good British movie I'd recommend is Horror Express. The storyline is a lot like John Carpenter's The Thing, except it's on a train instead of in the Antarctic. It's not Hammer and it doesn't feature any castles that I can remember, but it's got Christopher Lee, so that's always a plus.

I love how you're all ignoring what the OP asked for...lol...

Classic horror pre 1970's
Some of my favorite classic horrors are the old Corman ones like The Pit and the Pendulum, the Masque of the Red Death, the Fall of the House of Usher, etc but there's a lot of good horror from that time period:
What I've watched and liked from the 20's to 1970 by decade 1920's Nosferatu The Phantom of the Opera 1930's Dracula Frankenstein The Mummy The Mask of Fumanchu 1940's A Picture of Dorian Gray (1945) The Wolfman 1950's The Seventh Seal House of Wax The Creature from the Black Lagoon The Fly House on Haunted Hill 1960's 13 ghosts The House of Usher (Corman) Psycho (Hitchcock) The Innocents The Pit and the Pendulum (Corman) The Haunting (1963) - possibly the scariest G-rated movie ever Carnival of Souls Phantom of the Opera (Hammer films) Tales of Terror (Corman) Tower of London (Corman) The Birds (Hitchcock) Kwaidan/Kaidan (Japanese horror, an old ghost story, I loved it) Masque of the Red Death The Last Man on Earth (Remake stars Will Smith: I AM LEGEND) Onibaba (More Japanese horror, but it's a goodie) Tomb of Lygeria Night of the Living Dead (Romero) Rosemary's baby Hope you enjoy them as much as I did! |
Did you bother to read the first post?

I want to say that most of those do have a large mansion or castle in them. Some drawn, some actual sites. The mansion in the haunting is pretty awesome. The masq has a smaller castle. House of usher is a drawn/painted mansion. The innocents exterior is of an actual mansion if i recall. Phantom doesnt have an exterior as i recall though the interior shots are very atmospheric. The house on Haunted hill has a great shot of a creepy post modern manse and pit and the pendulum has great ext. Shots of a castle. The seventh seal has ext. Shots of a mideaval castle/baily tor as i recall and nosferatu has exteriors of an old castle as well as lugosi's dracula and frankenstein. Kaidan has japanese feudal architecture. Last man on earth i think ends in a church. 13ghosts is set in a mansion i believe. Is that what you mean?

I would say this post answers the original question far better than the list of your favorite movies by decade.
I also wouldn't "most" of the movies in your list have a painting of a castle in them. A more accurate statement would be that a few of them do. |
