Changes in the Horror Dot Com forums
1) The 10-character rule per post has been disabled. Feel free to reply just "Hello" to any new member's introductory thread.
2) The "Quick" reply has been replaced with a "Multi" quoting/reply feature. You can click on "Multi" for more than one post in a thread, and can reply to them all individually in one post. Maximum limit for Multi Quoting = 10 posts. 3) The maximum images which can be inserted in one individual post has been bumped to 10, instead of 5. 4) Editing your original post now has a 30-minute limit, instead of the previous infinite-limit. This will prevent drastic changing of original posts which make subsequent posters look silly in their replies to that post. 5) Display of "Last Edited by..." now has a 1-minute limit, instead of the previous 2-minute limit, for more transparency. 6) New users will have these as default in their User CP Settings - Send Notification Email When a Private Message is Received, Pop up a Notification Box When a Private Message is Received, Save a copy of sent messages in my Sent Items folder by default. 7) Images can now be uploaded/hotlinked as show up as thumbnails. Maximum width & height for thumbnails is 500 pixels. Thumbnails can be clicked upon, to open in a separate window and show the original image. This will help prevent the display of unnecessary huge pictures in thread pages. 8) Search results number has been bumped to 1000, instead of the original 500-thread cut off. 9) The Japanese Horror section has been renamed to Asian Horror, and IMG codes for it has been enabled. It has also been moved up the Movie Discussion scale, and sits below the Classic Horror section now. 10) Zwoti can set himself to "Invisible" again. Also reinstated his previous avatar. 11) A new sub-forum, Compilations and Pastimes, has been added below Site Suggestions/Questions. All top 100 compilations & game threads from the entire forum has been moved to this new sub-forum. 12) Signature Image height and width has been increased to 500 x 500 pixels. 13) Moderators are now allowed a maximum of 150 private messages. 14) User ranks are now added to members. (50 posts = HDCian, 1000 posts = Senior HDCian, 10,000 posts = Distinguished HDCian) 15) Always wanted to give a 5-star rating to your favorite compilation? How about rating the "Art of TypH"'s thread in the Art section? Ratings are now enabled for all threads across all sub-forums and sections. So go ahead, rate the threads according to how good they are in your view. 16) The default view of number of threads in all sections was limited to "for the past one month" only. That has now been changed to "all threads" which means everyone is able to access all threads made from the beginning of the forums in each section of HDC. 17) A new sub-forum, Latest Horror Movies, is added to the Horror Movie Discussion section. That section is to discuss horror films from the 1990s onwards. The Modern Horror Movie section will deal with films released between 1970 and 1989, since many new members/horror fans regard that time-period as a period of classic horror for them. 18) We now have THREE new Contributors as well - The Villain, Giganticface and Ferretchucker. Congratulations! Hopefully all 3 of you will contribute plenty of articles, reviews and other stuff to the Horror dot com databases. Quote:
Thanks to Sibwaypro for providing me with admin privileges, so that I could correct and rectify a lot of problems of our HDC forums. Happy Thanksgiving, folks! Any other feature(s) you have noticed as broken? Post it in here and I will rectify it. |
Very cool! Thanks for making the effort to improve HDC!
|
Thanks good work V
|
Thank you, V!

Nice one, V.

Awesome V, those are some great changes. Thanks
|
First post has been updated with all the corrections I could do.
Did my best to make the Attachments work but from what I can deduce, the attachment storage server (external) is either disabled or it's link doesn't work anymore, hence every time a member tries to upload something, it shows "Page cannot be displayed." Must have become an issue when the horror.com servers were moved during an upgrade about 6-7 years back, since I can see older attachments (uploaded by older members) in the database. Most things are working/should work now. Anything else comes to your attention, post in this thread or send me a PM. I'll see to it. Enjoy the Turkey Day, folks. I am off after almost 12 hours of hard work. The vBulletin Control Panel is H-U-G-E!! So many sections, sub-sections, options... No wonder horror never bothered to rectify all these problems. He simply wouldn't know where to start! |
You are awesome, V!! Thank you so much for everything you've done!
|
All future book and movie titles give you a great big THANKS!:)
Me too. |
Absolutely terrific news on all of this, V! Thanks for making me a contributor too, I'll do my best to offer interesting reading! Honestly cannot fault any one of these changes (and don't us humans LOVE to criticise change? ;) )
|
Added a new smiley set instead of the ancient stone-age set which we had. Best of all, it's animated!
Hit "Post Reply" on any thread, check out the set on the right in the Reply box, please go through them and leave your feedback. |

Love them! Thanks, V! Edit: Just noticed what you put under "HDC's old chick" - I like it! |

These are *great* changes, V. Very thoughtful fine-tuning of the forum -- clearly the work of a veteran. I'm especially excited to use the multi-quote feature. This will make some of those posts so much easier to write.
I'm also honored to be made a contributor! I'll do my best -- but first, I must ask, what does that mean? :) |
Thank you, those are all great changes! ::smile::
|
These are some excellent changes. I especially like the addition of the multi- quote.
|
Great job and some very useful changes : ) Took me about a week here before I realised that my searches were only showing recent threads by default instead of all of them so that's a good one!
I've tried a bit of forum coding myself recently and floundered totally so I can appreciate the work you must have put it into it. |
Big thanks! Especially enjoying the new horror-themed smileys! :halloween:::EEK!:::scared to death::danger:

There was some problem in posting in the threads in the "Compilations and Pastimes" sub-forum, as reported by hammerfan. New posts were asking for approval by a moderator. That issue has been set right and it should be solved now.
Enjoy your forum browsing. |

Some great changes have been made so definitely kudos but just a quick question.-I know it didn't really work out what I tried to do but what happened to the "Last Seen European Horror" thread that was in the horror movie database forum?

---------------------------- Some more tweaks: 1) Added a new rank, "Newbie", for users with a minimum of 5 posts. 2) The "Horror, But Not Movies" section (TV Shows, Comics, Books, Music, Games, etc.) can now be viewed with the option of all threads from the beginning, instead of the default From The Last 30 Days. 3) Moderators can now set themselves into "Invisible Mode" as well. Enjoy! 4) Minor corrections to Moderator neverending's account. He has full Moderator privileges now (previously it was restricted). 5) Number of private messages for Moderators has been bumped to 150. Same for the Super Moderators is 500. 6) Moderators can send Private Messages to 10 recipients at the same time, instead of the default 5. I will be working on a User Reputation system (to be introduced in the next few days) and a set of new custom Avatars as well. Updates will be posted as/when they happen. |
Fabulous! Thaks V!
|
Thank you, V!
|
Custom avatars sound exciting! I will say that "reputation systems" that I've seen used on other boards can lead to some forum acrimony.
|
I do have only one question concerning the new changes
Do Super Moderators get to wear a cape? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps2601630f.jpg cause that would be effing cool::smile:: |

Avatars:
1) Added a new "Alien" avatar to the Horror Movie Avatars. It's slightly bigger than the rest of the defaults. 2) This makes each avatar category contain 16 avatars each. Check the User CP/ Edit Avatar section for details. 3) Shortened the per page column for avatar viewing to 4, instead of 5. Default number per page for avatars is now 8, instead of 10. 4) Also added a separate avatar category, Famous Personalities. Choices are (from) Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Vincent Price, HP Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker, Barbara Steele, Sir Alfred Hitchcock, Sir Christopher Lee, Sir Peter Cushing, Anthony Perkins, Clive Barker, Stephen King, Bruce Campbell & Ingrid Pitt. Can only be accessed by members who have 50 posts or more (HDCian ranks). 5) Will add more avatars in the coming days. EDIT: Please welcome our two *NEW* contributors - Chronogrl and roshiq! |
Major tweaks:
1) The Horror.com Lobby has been moved down (General Forum, New Member Lounge, Announcements, Suggestions/Questions & Compilations/Pastimes). As a horror-based forum, we should be concentrating more on discussing all things horror than chatting about general stuff. Hence this major change. 2) The Horror Movie Discussion will be the top section from now on, followed by the Horror, But Not Movies section. This will help everyone - old and new members alike - to concentrate on horror stuff more. 3) Major tweaking to the Horror, But Not Movies section. The Music section moves upwards, just below TV Shows, followed by Books, Horror Fiction Post, Comics, Horror Art, Games (in that order), and the rest as earlier. Feedback on this is most welcome. If the majority find this change uncomfortable, we shall revert back to the earlier design. |
Looks good to me. ::cool::
|
Excellent!

A few more tweaks:
1) Asian Horror moves up, Upcoming Horror moves down. 2) Filmmakers moves up, Indie Horror moves down. 3) Comics moves up, Fiction Post moves down. 4) True Crime moves up, Events & Happenings moves down. 5) Compilations and Pastimes moves up, Site Announcements moves down. Feedback requested for any other broken features which need to be corrected, and your choice(s)/preferences of avatar categories. |
A very important feature added.
Let's say, for example, you want to add this image to your post in any thread (http://www.unleashthefanboy.com/wp-c...3/02/Alien.jpg). As you can see (by clicking on the link), the image is too big (1680 x 1050) and will go beyond the normal/original boundaries of the thread. This problem keeps happening in many threads and is often a cause of annoyance + delay in loading the pages. Like this picture of Mandela posted by Despare in the R.I.P. thread - http://www.horror.com/forum/showpost...&postcount=126 I have devised a solution to this problem by successfully creating a new BBCode (like the youtube bbcode which we have been using so successfully in recent times). All you got to do, is use the [TIMG] BBCode, instead of the [IMG] code. As you all know, the IMG codes insert images, and now this TIMG code will insert a fully-clickable thumbnail. The image's preview will show in your post, and it will be clickable to everyone who wants to check out the picture in it's original dimensions. For example, TIMG Image URL /TIMG (using []s) will convert the above Alien picture into ![]() What's more, you can click on it as well! |
Great additions V!
