The Great HDC Showdown III - Women of Horror
1 Attachment(s)
Good Morning/Evening to all HDC-ians!!
Yes, it's back! I welcome you all to.. And this time, we have it with all the wonderful WOMEN OF HORROR. Quite simply put, women power has driven our favorite film genre through the ages, right from Elsa Lanchester's Bride to Vera Farmiga's Lorraine. How good they will be when they stack up against each other, will be decided by YOU. If you haven't been a part of the HDC Showdown before, here's the first iteration and the second iteration. To put down the rules, here they are:- 1 - We tee off with 18 HDC participants. All were asked to list NINE alphabets in the teaser thread, which corresponds to NINE landmark female roles in horror cinema history - EIGHT from the decades gone by, and ONE from a very special section. All 18 HDCians will be drafted into SIX teams of THREE HDCians each. That makes it 27 women-in-horror performances per team. 2 - One team will then be pitted against TWO other teams, with triple threat Showdowns leading up to 5 votes per winner. The HDCians involved in that Showdown can also cast their own votes (including a bit of canvassing for their choices, if they choose so). There is no fixed criteria for voting for a particular horror femme performance. You may choose acting ability, looks, or any other criteria you deem fit, when you vote. Be tactful, and cast your vote judiciously - if you support your stronger opponents, you yourself might get knocked out by them in the next round! ::wink:: 3 - The winner of each Showdown earns 1 HDC dollar. The losers get kiboshed. All HDC dollars are added up on the leaderboards, which will be displayed ONCE after every NINE Showdowns. 4 - At the end of all Showdowns of Round 1 for all SIX teams, ONE HDCian from each of the BOTTOM THREE teams (teams with the lowest HDC dollars earned) will be ELIMINATED. Teams will then be REDRAFTED!! We continue on until we find our SHOWDOWN EMPEROR!! (or EMPRESS) 5 - An Updated Grid showing the choices of the HDCians and their teams involved will be posted at the end of each match, for one of you to make the set of choices for the next Showdown. 6 - Whoever is online when the Grid is posted, can post his/her choices. IN CASE the said person is a participant and does NOT want to be a part of the next Showdown, he/she may choose to sit out and name THREE other choices who will duke it out between themselves. 7 - A choice once chosen and ending up either winning/losing a Showdown, CANNOT be chosen again. This ensures all other choices AND all other participants a fair chance of earning some HDC dollars. 8 - The number of HDC dollars one wins (a maximum of 9 HDC dollars) will enable the participant to get *NEW* Alphabetical choices. For example, Rayne wins 5 HDC dollars, which means 5 of her choices (attributed to the same alphabets she chose), WILL be CHANGED!! 9 - In case of any conflict/misunderstanding, PM me pointing it out, and I will look into it before finalising a solution/decision. You are free to indulge in ribbing and gentle nudging your opponents, as well as cheering for your choices (which you MUST!), but PLEASE dont degrade the thread into arguments, bickering and fights. Just sit back, and enjoy the ride! Confused on how this game is played but I guess I'll learn as we go ahead. I don't know Dude but I'm sure me, him and Newb will do well.
|
I'm a bit confused as well. I have quite a few questions already but am hoping they'll be cleared up once the challenge begins.

I agree, but watch out for Team D... Rayne and Zero are fierce competitors. Don't worry about Team B. Clearly a bunch of lightweights who will all be eliminated soon. |

Figures... our team captain is already MIA...
|
So what's going to be for those who have chosen Q, U & X in their 9 letter list??
|
Quote:
They'll be assigned horror babes just like the rest of the letters. V never said your choices had any correlation to the actress's names. |

For the record, I have chosen 3 of the most popular on-screen performances of each horror actress listed above. In some cases, it's 2 or even 1 performance. If those with the 1 options are chosen and exhausted, the participant will be asked to choose another alphabet, for a random allocation. Categories for the 9 alphabets are (according to year listed on IMDB) - The 00s - from 2000 till now. The 90s - from 1990 to 1999. The 80s - from 1980 to 1989. The 70s - from 1970 to 1979. The 60s - from 1960 to 1969. The 50s - from 1950 to 1959. The 40s - from 1940 to 1949. Earliest 30s - from the earliest till 1939. and... *Drum Roll* Special Section = HAMMER - from 1955 to 1979. Since the studio's most special era was in the 60s & 70s, it will be wedged between them. So the order of the 9 alphabets is (for now) - 00s, 90s, 80s, 70s, HAMMER, 60s, 50s, 40s & Earliest 30s. The order will be shuffled around as we progress on. |

Okay, here we go.
Apologies for the delays as I had to decode the 9 alphabets for the first three teams in my own unique way, then look for extra options for participants for the 30s and 40s time-periods. A lot of work and research on IMDB has gone through for this Showdown part III. I hope it's all worth it, if we find our way to the end. ***GONG*** ROUND ONE BEGINS! The first TRIPLE THREAT set of Showdowns are between: TEAM A, TEAM B & TEAM C!! Gear up, all 9 participants of the 3 teams! I need someone to step forward and choose THREE participants (ONE from EACH TEAM) and ONE letter from their alphabet choices, from the ones listed below:- TEAM A Chronogrl = ASGMREDWL MichaelMyers = ZYXWVUTSR Straker = NOSFERATU TEAM B Despare = QRSTLNEMA neverending = ABCDEFGHI Totem = XENAMORPH TEAM C Grimm Webster = DILYSQUAT Newb = MARLEYSGO The Villain = FRSTXZHKD For example, you can pick Chronogrl A, Neverending A & The Villain F, if you want them to duke it out between their picks from the 00s, or you can go criss-cross across the eras of horror by picking Straker S, Despare Q & Newb O. Remember, the order of the NINE alphabetical choices are: 00s (and later), 90s, 80s, 70s, HAMMER, 60s, 50s, 40s & 30s (and earlier). Either way, your choice. |

Thanks for letting your team members know! |
I don't know if I'm allowed to pick...or do the teams need to choose someone...if not.

---------------------- CHAPTER 1: Round 1 - Match 1 RealDealBlues has thrown CHRONOGRL, NEVERENDING & THE VILLAIN into the Showdown arena!! In Chronogrl's corner - DARIA NICOLODI as Anne (Tenebre) http://a3.ec-images.myspacecdn.com/i...09f92f7e/l.jpg In Neverending's corner - ASHLEY LAURENCE as Kirsty Cotton (Hellraiser) http://klubkrik.ru/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/140.jpg In The Villain's corner - STEPHANIE BEACHAM as Jessica Van Helsing (Dracula A.D. 1972) http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8BNxsQs3wh...eacham%2B2.jpg First to 5 votes wins! |
ASHLEY LAURENCE
It's the obvious choice. |
Tough one off the bat...
I love Tenebre but it's not the first role that makes me think of Daria Nicolodi. Stephanie Beacham was pretty but it was Caroline Munro I waited to see in Dracula A.D. 1972. So I guess, my vote will go to... ASHLEY LAURENCE as Kirsty Cotton (Hellraiser) She was in several Hellraiser films so the Character itself sticks out more and even though she's nearing 50, she's still pretty. Actually I think she was better looking in her 40's than in her 20's. |
BEACHAM as Jessica
|
Not to be sexist or anything but for this round I'm voting boobage
STEPHANIE BEACHAM as Jessica Van Helsing (Dracula A.D. 1972) ok...I guess that was pretty sexist....as will most of the rest of my picks shall be::wink:: |
This may be a stupid question but I don't vote right?
