hey, what did you guys think of the film? i am a christian and i enjoyed it. it was refreshing to see a movie that portrated a postive message about christianity. a message that promoates love and acceptnaces.

Ok, so maybe I jumped the gun. Is it a christian movie, or is it a movie with christian elements?

it definitely has christian elements however im pretty sure a LOT of christians wouldnt appreciate it.

thats just from what ive seen from commerciasl though. i think at least in the movie jesus is less a holy icon and more one of those signs that are neon lights shaped into words... u know, las vegas type stuff

ok just read a synopsis

basically its a buncha seniors in high school. a guy ocnfesses that hes gay and this girl gets a vision from jesus telling her to save him.

so shes tries to save him and ends up getting pregnant by him. then along the way theres a jewish guy, an angry girl. some shit like that.

self discovery type shit........... sounds kinda neat.

Saved was an awsome movie, Mandy moore and Jenna Malone were great in it, The movie makes fun of christions who are intolerant to other peoples beliefs, most christions wont watch this movie because of the way it shows them in this, but the movie has a great moral to accept people and there beliefs, I think that all christions who are intolerant should see this movie and its is real funny

I wouldn't be interested in it, anyway...It isn't a horror movie...I'm pretty single-minded that way...I didn't care to see The Passion Of The Christ, either...

Wait ... is this true? You aren't interested in any films that aren't horror? You're missing out on a lot of good stuff, particularly from independent filmmakers.

As far as saved goes, I want to see it ... although I'm pretty upset that the only comment I have read from a Christian was a favorable one (alixzander). I should delve a little deeper into the reviews.

Yeah...I'm boring...I can do a little comedy...Adam Sandler, movies from the other SNL crew...A little action (not much), Bulletproof, Long Kiss Goodnight, Terminaters, Total Recall, Tim Burton's stuff (whatever you want to classify that as)...That really is pretty much about it....

I'm like you, though, on what sort of films I can do without. Comedies ... I can take 'em or leave 'em. I can't stand action movies (snoozefest for me, there.) Nor can I watch a romance, even though my wife makes me do it once in a while. However, I have to have a good, smart Drama every once in a while (The Station Agent being the most recent), or a unique thriller (like Memento). I like a film that gives me a fresh and original perspective on something I thought I knew everything about. Keeps me thinking, and helps me find new things to wonder about every day.

It was truly a great film. I think the actor who played the dwarf (it's been a while since I saw it, so I don't remember the character's or the actor's name) did an amazing job. Truly a film for those of us who have ever felt shunned from, or looked at as different by society.

I def. am going to see it....hasn't been at our video store I think....or maybe my hub has just been passing it up! :mad:

The Shipping News was also great & The Legend of 1900..........love Tim Roth........underrated actor who is one of the best! Ivinceable is also good. Another Roth flic!

Tim Roth is a fantastic actor. I would love to see him on Inside the Actor's Studio. LOL... They should do a "Character Actors Special" with that show, where Lipton interviews just those actors whose faces you recognize because you see them in everything, but you can never remember their names. William H. Macy was such an actor for a LONG time. He's just recently begun to earn his BIG fame. Another actor is that guy (see? I can't remember his name) who played the protagonist in American Splendor. He's good, too.

Agree......William H Macy was also in a Fest flic I saw that was good not too long ago.....can't recall the name of it..........about a man who becomes shunned by everyone one he knows when he is mistaken for being Jewish............powerful film about discrimination.......If I think of the name I'll tell you..could look it up under Macy movies I guess.......

It's called Focus. And it is a great film. I showed it in class two years ago when I taught The Merchant of Venice.

:D Yeah, I tried to do a whole "Religious Discrimination" theme with The Merchant of Venice. It didn't really work out, though. For some reason, the kids just weren't interested in debating any heavy topics. All they like to debate about is what affects their own immediate interests (like school uniforms or wearing a school ID). It's pretty damned aggravating.

Looking forward to that AIM! We can argue about Moby Dick. I hated that book! heheheheh I just finished Volume 1 of Wuthering Heights, and have moved on to Vol. 2 (yay for me!) Hopefully, I can get it done and have a unit ready by the time the students start. (stress stress stress stress :eek: )

How can you hate Moby Dyck! Incredibly allegorical..........beautifully written even though it strays at times.........Ahab was fascinating! LOL! Yeah I'll aim you when I get back!

The funny thing is (true story), Melville didn't even realise that Moby Dick was allegorical until somebody pointed it out to him. :D Actually, I didn't hate it. It was pretty bothersome though. It reads like a narrative that's wrapped around a massive encyclopedia entry on whales.

Yes I know....I've read about that. Everyone sees it as being about man and god......I see it as relating to our interconnection with nature, and how powerless we really are in the midst of of it even though we would like to believe we are have ultimate control. That was Ahab's downfall.

Oh and about the whales........that I do agree on.......... I now know absolutely everything about whales inside and out.........that did get excessive......LOL!

Yes! I agree. Moby Dick is definitely Romantic in fashion (and again, I don't mean "romantic" as in lovey-dovey, but as in the Romantic Movement). Man believes he is all-powerful, but nature is stronger. I love Romantic art, too. It's so violent! (drool). Like the painting on the cover of my Penguin Classics edition of Lovecraft. It depicts a little man down in the left-hand corner, surrounded by fire, smoke, and black mountains. Really moving stuff.

I love that type of art too.............no not lovey dovey...........but passionate regarding the human experience.........and now I must get ready to go out.........you.......me ...books ..later bud!

However, let me step in for just a sec and make a comment about this topic.

I didn't see "Saved," and while I appreciate Christianity's right to art, Christianity doesn't appreciate mine or those with differing views. (Note that I'm refering to extremists and the South, where I was born and raised), so it's my little insignificant way of protesting. Silly, but it gives me a little self righteous pleasure. :D

To stingy and Nine, i must once again advocate the creation of a flirtation/hook up forum....

Ya i feel ya on this one....the sheer amount of violence that was allowed in the "artistic" depiction of christs last moments (passion), is sickening when you see how much violence is NOT allowed in movies with the same artistic goals (natural born killers for example)...
