THE Man
H.P. Lovecraft is the author that has had the most impact on my writing (oddly, the close second is Bob Salvatore. i havent written any fantasy in years) I figured i would start a little shrine to the man, considering some of the younguns (and some of the olduns) here are woefully undereducated on him.
here is a great site: http://www.hplovecraft.com/ i have found some excellent artists who have done great pics of many of his creatures. I'll post them as i dig them up again. He originally was from Newb's neck of the woods (Rhode Island), and set the stage for Stephen King to make New England out to be a hellhole of inbreds and monsters. His motto should hacve been the same as Guinness "Often imitated, never copied" (i think thats guinness....) He brought weird to a whole new level, and is pretty phenominal for not really wiriting too many stories on old subjects (not really any vampires or werewolves in Lovecraft) And you have to respect a guy who makes up an entire pantheon that is still being added to and pulled from now. Now, maybe someday they will make a GOOD movie based on one of his stories. Dagon was just a crappy, bastardized version of "Shadow over Innsmouth". They even named the spanish city where it was set "imbocca" (spanish for "In Mouth") |
We just watched Re-Animator...Bride Of Re-Animator...Beyond Re-Animator...AND From Beyond...Last night and the night before...Jeffrey Combs kicks SOOO much ass...lol
On a side note...We went to see The Grudge Last night...We BOTH fell asleep during different parts...Of course, to be fair, neither of us have been getting much sleep lately;).....Wicked Lady and Shinobi loved the movie, though....We were a bit disappointed with it... |
It sucked. Ever see that video of the woman doing something nasty to a horse and then she choked on it? It sucked like that.
I havent seen the reanimator yet. I'm cautiously interested. i like Jeff. LOved him in the Frighteners, and he was about the only watchable person in Fortress. How about a picture? This is a Gug. I have not yet read the story that features them: |
