No. I'm just kidding. Obviously lots of people like `em because they keep making money. Lots of it. Only, most people who see them go not even knowing the original. <Best old man voice> back in my day...they re-released popular movies. Since the dawn of the VCR and movie rental the practice of re-releasing popular films years later has nearly diminished (with the exceptions of major cult followings like Star Wars). Now, to get audiences to return to see an old idea they need to put a new face on it. Some movies, like King Kong, deserve to be redone every few decades. The first remake was too soon, but this one promises to show us a Kong so real he will amaze audiences again. Other movies are just rehashes of an old idea. Often they are not done as well as the first. These are the ones that bug people. |

Normally I am 100% opposed to remakes. Leave the classics alone!
Phantasm, however, sucks ass. A remake can do nothing but improve this series. Lose the pussy little kid, the fat, bald retarded hero (Reggie) and get a better villain. (The Tall Man... Oooo.... Real fuckin' scary. ) I probably still won't see it because it is based off such a shitty movie to begin with but I am all for this remake. When you start at the very bottom, there is no where to go but up. |
