Good film, I saw it awhile back. Was planning to buy it today, as a matter of fact.
My mini-review, as posted in Last Seen Movie: This was a pretty good show. Depp is one of my favourite actors, and while this wasn't one of his best roles, he still did a great job as Abberline. I also quire liked Robbie Coltrane as his partner with an affection for poetry, Peter Godrey. The rest of the supporting cast was good as well, especially Ian Holm. I loved the atmosphere; though I've heard people complain about it's inaccuracies, I love this romantic kind of portrayal of London: the cobblestone streets, the faint street lights through the billowing fog...makes a great setting for a horror flick. One small problem I had was that the plot seemed to move too fast. There wasn't really enough time for anything to develop, especially near the end. Overall it was a pretty good movie though, I enjoyed it. 7/10 |
You you ever want some heavy reading, pick up the graphic novel on which this movie is based. Its as thick a phone book. Well written, very detailed. THe art is ok.
Its by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell |
Good film, a little bit different from some of the other stuff Ive seen about Jack (mainly made for TV films and a couple of mini-series'). The Return is spot on about the atmosphere, its captured really well.

Decent, wasn't as good as I was hoping. Had the same chilling London atmosphere as Bram Stoker's Dracula (Coppolla), but pailed in comparison. I started to lose interest towards the end.

doesn't come close to doing the graphic novel justice.
