That was cute Olivia.

But let me put on my patriotic hat for a second. Someone fire up the National Anthem on a really good stereo, big speakers, subwoofer.......

Memorial Day is much more than a three-day weekend that marks the beginning of summer. To many people, especially the nation's thousands of combat veterans, this day, which has a history stretching back all the way to the Civil War, is an important reminder of those who died in the service of their country.

(I'll keep it short) :)

Barbecues and alcohol, God bless America.

Born in the USA - Bruce Springsteen

(...time for barbecues...)

Born down in a dead man's town
The first kick I took was when I hit the ground
You end up like a dog that's been beat too much
Until you spend half your life just covering up

Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.

I got in a little hometown jam
And so they put a rifle in my hands
Sent me off to Vietnam
To go and kill the yellow man

Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.

Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man says "Son if it was up to me"
I go down to see the V.A. man
He said "Son don't you understand"

Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.

I had a buddy at Khe Sahn
Fighting off the Viet Cong
They're still there, he's all gone
He had a little girl in Saigon
I got a picture of him in her arms

Down in the shadow of the penitentiary
Out by the gas fires of the refinery
I'm ten years down the road
Nowhere to run, ain't got nowhere to go

I'm a long gone Daddy in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
I'm a cool rocking Daddy in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.

Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.

My father is a Vietnam vet. He actually liked the war, though. Since he's been retired he's had to take his aggression out on the rest of the world, and I think he feels a little cheated.
Out of what, I'm not so sure.

My mum's dad fought in WWII. He was stationed in Italy. He got the Purple Heart for a shell exploding in his fox hole injuring him. He got the Bronze Star, and the Medal for Good Conduct.

My dad was in Vietnam. He was in CIA Special Forces. As a matter of fact, the other night, he was a little tipsy, and was telling us how they'd taught him how to sneak up on someone and kill them. 'Twas interesting if a bit gross. He said that they used to practice on goats, and then they had to make jerky out of goat meat to take on missions. Great story, dad...thanks...

Goddess bless our troops, though. They kick ass. A buddy of mine was stationed in Iraq for a while. I was doing spells, praying, all that kinda thing until he came home safe and sound. I wasn't for the war in Iraq, but we're there, so, again, Goddess bless our troops.
