first real fright

when i was young my folks where watching a movie in the lounge. there was a scene where some curtains where moving with a breeze and the frame moved outside to a field with a tree and a girl who turned and looked at the camera. does this sound familiar to anyone? it has been bugging me for years. i know it sounds like every horror movie ever made, but someone has to know. it was roughly 1987.

my parents went to see a movie at the drive in when i was a small kid ..

we were supposed to be asleep in the back of the old station wagon but of course i was peeking (saw my 1st sex scene this way when they went to see Love Story)

I remember at one of them there was an add for a horror movie ..
not sure what it was but it was black and white and there were shots of a killer plant/weed/vine crawling through a house eventually killing people .. and a dismembered hand crawling by itself. this movie must be from the 60's or very early 70's

scared the shit out of me.

I was scared by a TV spot for a movie and it was years, many many years, before I figured out what it was. It seemed to be about a haunted house with a spirit that lived in a painting, based on the TV spot. The dead person would kill the people in the house. One scene showed people being crushed by the converging walls of a shower!

And the film was......ARNOLD (1973). And it wasn't technically a ghost movie, it was about a dead guy who had rigged his house to kill his relatives off--he knew them so well that he designed a special trap that each of them would fall for. And it's sort of a comedy spoof! But that TV commercial was really very nightmarish for a kid to see.

Although it's a comedy spoof, it's still a somewhat disturbingly weird movie.

i remember being really scared by an outerlimits episode about witches. the thing that made it all the more scary was my mom sent me out of the room about half way through because she thought it would be too scary. . . but not seeing the ending made it all the more horrific

I was seven and saw Candyman for the first time. It's been 11 years since then, but I can never finish that movie. Hell, I still can't finish the black and white original Night of the Living Dead. Ugh...the gut-eating scene is what got to me...:p

ill hate mirrors forever more after candyman.......i think the first time i remember jumping at a film was some part in nightmare on elm street, it wasnt a scary gory part i think it was when that dude jumped out the bushes....an intentional scare but not scary.

My friend saw Nightmare on Elm Street (the first one) just a few nights ago. We were watching it and she started yelling "OMG! THAT BASTARD KILLED JOHNNY DEPP!" My reply was "Meh...shut up...drooling over Kruger..." Yes, I find Freddy Kruger attractive.
