Simply Offensive

this is the place to say the most offensive thinsg you can think of, without fear of reprisal. This isnt necessarily the place for racism or pictures of dead babies, but the kind of cruel, awful shit that youwould usually keep out of regular threads in order to keep the peace.

This was inspired by, you guessed it, something i heard on Opie and Anthony this morning. They do a thing they call "The Walk" every morning where they walk from the CBS owned radio station where they do their "Terrestrial" radio show to thier XM satelite radio station. there is a homeless guy named Andrew that they talk to occasionally on the way. they did yesterday, and he was bsing with them.

Now, they have described him as being at his lowest point ever, even for a homeless guy. but he is apparently a real sweetheart, he makes a little crossout of pennies every morning on anapkin, says bless you to everyone, and is generally the kind of hob the world needs, if we are going to have hobos. So he had somehow gotten his hands on a nice cinnamon crumb cake, the kind of pastry that they sell by the slice at ritzy bakeries, still wrapped in plastic, but precut. he was very proud of it, and offered them a piece. Jimand Anthony said no thanks, but Opie aske dhim to put it down, and when he did, Opie jumped and SLAMMED both feet onto the cake, causing it to explode everywhere.

You hear andrew say "Hey, I earned that..." they were laughinbg hysterically, but you can tell they felt bad about it. Jim actually walked away before he jumped, knowing exactly what was goping to happen when Opie told him to put it down. To add insult to injury, Opie tossed acouple of bucks at Andrew for his troubles, which were blown away in the wind.

I have never felt so shitty for another human being on the radio, it was just awful. Even if he wasnt destitute living on a sidewalk, it would have been pretty heartbreaking, but that was just the worst.

The funny thingis, they all felt bad for it, and ALL of them were going to give him money today (we'll see if they actually do)

Anyway, back on topic, i was thinking to myself "This is too much, that is a horrible thing they did. THAT was offensive."

Then i thought, "If it's so horrible, then dont listen to it." Basically, if you listen to Opie and Anthiny, odds are, at some point you WILL be offended. if you dont want to be, dont listen. I actually have to congradulate them, becaus eI am VERY jaded, and it takes a lot to offend me.

Poor bastard, i hope they gave him a hundred bucks a hotel room...

i was SOOO tempted to report this thread. . .because its offensive!!

seriously though - i usually can't stand racism or hatred towards women of any kind. i used to listen to howard stern (when he was free) and would just switch it off when it got into a tirade of racism or sexism (which most people would think means i never listened but, in fairness to the show, was not that frequent)

my problem is people i know who will whip out some racist or vulgar bit of misogyny and then look at you and your stuck with either fake-laughing, calling them on it (and making a big scene) or (my usual response) just staring blankly at them as if you can't possibly see why "that" would be funny to them

(this may explain why i have no friends - :( )

Probably the one thing they have done (well, in fairness, Opie did) that i didnt see the humor in it. I'm partially comforted by the fatc that they knew they were assholes for it and it bothered them.

And really, when Jim Norton says he cant watch it, it's BAD.

or the opportunity to jump on one of their heads - splattering it all over the sidewalk..

Vodstok 10-25-2006 12:01 PM

the sad thing is mr Andrew is clearly not the kind of person who would appreciate such a thing. This did really hit me on a very sensitive level, although its hardly going to make me quit listening to them. I was constantly having to give shit away as a kid either because we were moving (5 times from 1 to 16) not to mention i was one of those peopl that if i had a toy i loved, it would get destroyed or lost. i was never a lucky kid...

So when people havent done anythign wrong and they lose something of value, it kill sme. God help me if Lily ever loses a doll she likes....

i'm sensitive to that too .. my kid has a blanket he's had since he was newborn.
he's attached to it which is weird because i was the same way (longer than most kids) i guess it set the stage for the rest of my life - placing a higher than reasonable value on material belongings - buyt hey - we are what we are.

i just hope nothing ever happens to that damn blanket - it'd be terrible for him.

some might say getting rid of it would be a favor - a life shaping lesson .. hard to tell, everyone is different.
