~Life~
Just thought yknow, I haven't actually spoken to a whole lot of you for a while, and thought I'd give some updates with what's going on with me.
Then I thought, hey...why don't you guys do the same? What's been going on in your life? PART 1: Whut? So, put my studies on break...the chef stuff. I guess you could say I'm pretty much at the stage of a qualified CATERER. I'm still planning on finishing my studies, but I found there were some issues I had with certain aspects of the industry (which I won't bother going into now...), so, decided to let it go for a while. Am I still cooking and learning? Hell yeah. In fact, I'm cooking way more. My long term decision is not to actually work as a chef, mainly finish my studies for personal development and interest. After that, I'll maybe check out some catering gigs, or see if there's any cook work or people that wanna hire an in-house cook/chef. Other than that...I just can't see me working in the industry. When I've had enough of the workforce alltogether, and saved enough, the girl and I have always thought about doing a nice B&B kinda place, each of us serving our favourite recipes we've developed over time...that's a long time coming, but yes, that's the desired endgame. PART 2: The new job... I was applying for jobs here'n there. I don't even know where I applied for this one, but it was one of the bunch of replies I got. It's actually an office gig. Weird, hm? Especially for me. It's not "suit and tie", but it's casual corp. wear...which is all good, but unfamiliar to me. Gotta keep the hair short, not SHORT short, but yknow...short-er than my usual. What is it? hm...a whole buncha stuff. Marketing (but prior client related), promotions, aspects of corporate research, client liason, various workers unions, customer service and info. Our clients that I've seen thus far? The govt in power (yeck), NineMSN, Sony, The state transit authority, Acxiom, among many more. Got to play with a ps3 about a week before launch in the office, that was pretty cool... So, yup...that's me. I'm called an agent now. First job I've had that might be worth a damn in future. I've actually been in talks with some of the management about study paths that'd qualify me for HR, training, or management positions in the future...they have a program that leads into that kind've thing for select candidates (as I understand, I'm one of those) - might check that out in a 'lil bit. Right now, I'm comfy just immersing myself in the environment...enjoying the first "good" job I've had. Weirdness there...for some reason they like ALWAYS feed you. Half way through training on the current campaign, 5 people walk in with platters of food "here's some lunch"...they were handing out mango slurpees to the staff prior that, amd we're always getting told to chill out and snack up on the stuff they always bring out like yknow seaweed crackers, dips, vegetables...etc...it's like I seldom have to buy lunch. The management is the coolest bunch I've ever had, by fucking FAR, and I've never worked with so few freaks. I get optional hours...contracted 12 weeks by 12 weeks. Right now I'm on 9am-4pm contractually, monday to thursday. 9AM-1PM Friday. No weekends, like, ever. Also, there's day and night, international and national campaigns to work with...so, there's always more hours if I'm so inclined. The work is easy, and I'm good at it. Best thing is? I'm getting paid about 4 times what I've been used to (student govt benefits)for the last couple years. Actually being able to afford whatever, whenever is pretty cool. Another good thing is, they have multiple offices in every major city in Australia, so I can transfer whenever in training. So yeah, that's me. "Agent B"...far cry from the cooking, but the first thing to make me feel worthwhile in a long time. Amazing what a half decent workplace can do. PART 3: Random ...I really like the band "Panzer AG" Anyone into NIN, white zombie, Manson, static x, or good, varied rock with tech influence, you should check it out. Listening to the album "your world is burning" right now. Good stuff. Favourite new snack - Nori seaweed snacks, wasabi flavoured (from yamagataya) Totally low in fat, and great to just munch on here'n there. So tasty...well, I guess, it is for me. I'm totally addicted to these things. Totally. ...I've said it before, I'll say it again. For cooking, drinking straight, or mixed, Stones green ginger wine is the SHIT, the shit, THE SHIT! No time! I've hardly watched any movies or played any game since I started this job...I think I'll have to manage my time a little better. I'm SO not used to this. Got a haircut yesterday. Finally picking up F.E.A.R tommorow. Going out (finally) for the girls birthday thing on friday....shit, that's tommorow...thursday here now. City, movie (hot fuzz, yiz-eah!), fleamarkets, chinatown and the night/street open markets there, weed aplenty, and hangin' out. Lunch, dinner, whole afternoon/night type deal. Might pick up BORAT on dvd. ...Eh, not a lot going on... There you go, an insight into the life of the phalanx. So, what it is, folks? whassup on your end? |
Sounds like things are looking up for you. That's awesome. Amazing what a goor job can do for your morale and self-esteem, huh?
I've had little time to hang out here lately. I'm still plugging away with my partner on a script for John Carpenter. He's super cool and if we deliver the rewrites he wants, he'll direct our script. So the pressure's on for us to get it perfect. Hard work, but fulfilling. We're being submitted for a questionable gig - none of you would approve - but we need the money...badly. It's great taking meetings with people and getting known around town, but that doesn't pay the bills. So we may be writing a direct to DVD sequel of a remake. How's that for the trifecta of crap? Our other film has been pushed back yet again. But that's independent film for you, it's a miracle anything gets made, let alone comes out good. On a personal note, the wife and I celebrate our 10th Anniversary on Sunday (yep - got married on April Fool's day.) Can't believe it's been that long. Weird thing is, the sex keeps getting better! |
:o
well its no secret that em engaged to a beautiful silly egyptian . At the moment..we are just waiting for some paperwork to be completed regarding releasing me from my contract with the education board..which is in the works right now...and when thats confirmed..then one ph call and em gone. Looking at an April departure. My baby has taken care of everything financially as well as organising everything pertaining to our wedding..all i have to do is arrive and complain/bitch and moan.. :D so if my baby is not online with me..going through major details and asking for my input..then i jump into h.d.c and annoy the crap out of ppl in here. :p |
Hmmm...maybe if I throw around the word "renob" in here, the thread'll get more posts...
Seriously, I'd like to hear from you guys...what's goin' on? |
Quote:
that some ppl just don't actually have a life' :p A real life that is :o |

Did somebody say Renob? Okay, I'm game... ;) (Just kidding. I wanted to respond to this thread this morning, but I had to get offline shortly after it went up so I decided to wait until I had more time to post...) My wife Alana hates her job. She's a secretary at 3M & in the corporate world, it's true what they say... Shit rolls downhill. And since she's at the bottom of the totem pole, she is constantly getting shit on. So she hates it & would like to find a new job & I totally support her in that because I just can't imagine going to work every day at a job you absolutely hate. As many of you know, I work 2 jobs. 1 as the night auditor at a hotel (Which is why I'm online so much all night, almost every night.) and the other as a real estate agent. I don't really mind either of my jobs, but I was recently made aware that I had a pretty good shot at getting the assistant manager position at the hotel and if that happens, I might stop selling real estate. The reason I'd opt for the hotel job over the real estate one is because my wife and I are hoping to move to a warmer climate within the next year or two & I could transfer with that job, but my real estate license is only good in Minnesota so that one would be out of the question at that point anyways. If and when we do move, it'll likely be out to Los Angeles, but more specifically North or West Hollywood since we have some friends there and our Godchild lives there. I'm about halfway done with the first draft of my first feature length spec script. It's a vampire comedy and once it's finished & registered, I will make it available to you guys to read & offer feedback on. The film I acted in (almost 2 years ago now) is STILL caught up in post-production! Evidently there were some issues with the audio at first and now there are some issues with transferring images to the greenscreen background. It's still being worked on, but I have absolutely no idea when I might see a copy of it. I'm in the process of editing my first short film, which will suck beyond belief, but the footage was never shot with any intention other than giving me something to play with on my new editing software. Once that's done, I'll throw it on YouTube & link it here so you can all check it out and laugh at how fuckin' terrible it is. Our dog Dude is awesome, but he likes to eat trash when we leave the bathroom door open & that usually makes him puke. I'm a huge sports fan in general, but I'm a diehard Minnesota sports fan (Especially the Vikings & Twins) so I've got baseball season coming up & I'm really looking forward to that! I think the Twins are gonna be serious contenders this year with their stacked young squad. Minnesota Wild made the playoffs in the NHL, so I'll probably be heading out to the XCel Center to check out a few playoff games in a couple weeks. The Timberwolves are doing inexcusably poor this year. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see Kevin Garnett go to a new team and I really wouldn't blame him. He's put up with having no supporting cast for 10+ years now and there's no championship in sight if he stays with the Wolves. The shows I watch on tv currently are... Survivor (I'm a HUGE fan), Lost, Jericho and The Amazing Race. When Big Brother starts up, I watch that too. Those are the shows I make a point to watch every week. Of course there are other shows that I'll watch when they're on like The Simpsons, South Park, Family Guy, Robot Chicken, etc... If there are any other Survivor fans here, I created a website about 4 years ago that basically allows you to play the game of Survivor over the internet. (Obviously you're not out in the woods, but it captures the psychological element of the game. You play with other live people from all over the globe and vote each other out each week.) If anyone's interested in checking that out, the website is http://bwind22.suddenlaunch.com. But for anyone that does go there, keep in mind that it's for people of all ages and walks of life (I've got members from ages 13 all the way up to retired people in their mid/late 50s) so try to watch the language. Think of that website as being rated PG-13, where this one is an easy R. Hmmm.... What else? I still listen to pretty much only punk rock with a small spattering of hard rock & rap thrown in. If you've never checked out the bands Bad Religion or Pennywise, I highly recommend them. I just watched The Prestige the other day. It was pretty good. Christopher Nolan is a pretty damn good director. I'll be watching Turistas after I get off work in the morning. I guess that's about it for my life in a nutshell. Nice thread Phalanx. |

Sounds like you and your chick have had a bit of a shit year so far, hm? Kinda hectic...haha, I'm getting kinda flustered just doing the one job...lets you know how much of a lazy fuck I've been the past couple eh? That's what a family inheritance'll do to ya. Warm climate? I wish I could get a cold one, like EVER, here. So you watch jericho too huh? After the "break", they didn't even resume showing it here...another one killed off by shitty networking decisions made by this country. I still download it though...waiting on the next ep...whens that out? Just today I had my general manager approach me and ask for a word...I don't know why, but every time this happens, scenes from the past play in my head and I assume I'm in some kinda shit...but my performance at this job thus far (as they tell me) has been above average, and I just have to get used to the fact that I won't be getting in much shit with the management anymore, as I'm not doing THIS job half-assed on account of actually liking it. Nope, in fact, it's yet another job I've been referred ahead to, a few extra hours. I'm basically handling mass board member invitations and bookings to some gala thing held by the dude (or well, one of 'em) that just won the federal election over here. If they only knew when they offered me all these govt. related/sponsored jobs just how little I care about the political bullshit....fuck, I don't even vote. ha. But it's cool that things are going well, and that they come to me first now for pretty much everything they want to yknow...work for them. It's funny, I've been there a week, and I'm getting work and hour preference whenever I like in front of people that have been there months, and years. Makes me feel like a prick, but hey....am I gonna turn down the first good oppertunities coming my way in years either? fuck that... Just installed F.E.A.R and watched the "machina" video...funny...Going to get stuck in at some point tonight... ....Sleepy.... KFC IS THE DEVIL. That's it for me today. |

Yeah, things could be better but we get by alright. I don't mind either of my jobs too much, but I do wish Alana could find something she enjoyed. Hopefully, she will soon. Move to Minnesota. No shortage of cold weather here. Fall & spring are nice but they last about 1-2 months each, but winter is about 5 months long and cold as hell (I think the low this past winter was like -35F with windchill.) Summer is the best season because we rarely get above 85 or below 70 and it last for 3-4 months. There was just a new episode of Jericho on last night (Wednesday) but I haven't watched it yet. I got it DVR'ed and will probably watch it right after work since my wife watched it last night & said it was an awesome episode. |

If the smarts ones don't vote, then the dumb ones decide who rules - it happened here, it'll happen there too. Please, please, please, please....vote! I'm begging you:) |
its unavoidable. the only people who vote are disenfranchised and the bitter. thats why only the most horrendous people get into govt.
