The Holy Mountain is pretty good......if you're into strange flicks.:)

Necromancer 06-29-2007 02:40 PM

el topo ? ;)

The Holy Mountain is a trip, it's a fun watch but not a movie I really "love". He's an artist, and I'm sure a lot of people would liken him to David Lynch. AJ has a bit more focus IMO, it seems like he actually wants to let the audience in on something but wants to make them work a little bit for it.

A fair assessment to be sure. Highly recommend the abovementioned three:

- Holy Mountain
- Santa Sangre
- el Topo

First watching of these was an uncomfortable experience that soon faded, replaced with admiration for this fellow. He's crazy about life and he's open about it.

On a sidenote, you may want to check out his Metabaron & Technopriests comics series.

i have, since this thread started, acquired sante sangre but am yet to watch it. i'll post a review here when i do.

He was initially supposed to direct DUNE with famed French illustrator/comic book artist Mobius as art director.

The "what could have been" boggles the mind.

Its a great movie. Remember to watch it with an open mind, and you will love the way he deftly handles his characters and builds on the script.

He has done some really admirable work in El Topo and Santa Sangre. One of the most underrated movie-makers, if there ever was one.

That is very vividly seen in his Metabaron comics series. The scope of his vision could not have been fully realized on film.
