First Half-Life, now Bioshock...

It is not exactly a secret that i am a huge video game nut. More to the point, i have been pimping Bioshock for about a year now down in the gaming forum. I am dying to get this game. Not only does it have amazing graphics, and hands-down the most realistic water ever put into a game, it has a deep plot with real moral choices where the outcome is directly affected by your decision, and in a more fluid way than the text selection you get in most RPGs.

here is where the title of this thread comes in. Way back in the day, I was dying for HalfLife. I had never been so excited baout a game in my life, and that was saying a lot. I ended up getting it for christmas, but lucky me, my computer couldnt handle it. I had waited over ayear for it to be released, only to get it and not be able to play it. It took me a year to scratch together the money to get a PC that could handle it, and when I finally played it, it was more than I had hoped.

Years later, a similar thing happened with Half-Life 2. I eargerly awaited the release date, this time making sure I had a computer that could handle it, and then some dick over in Germany stole the source code and set back the release date by a year. Thanks, asshole.

When it finally was released, I had a 6 pack of beer and a pizza all lined up t play hardcore all night. I had even preloaded the game so all i would have to do is verify who I was and BOOM, i'd be playing.

Apparently, so had over a million other people, so steam's network was overwhelmed to the point thati had to wait 4 grueling hours to launch the game..

SO, Bioshock is the next HL to me. I have been waiting forever for it. It gets released TODAY. I have a PC that can handle it. is there a problem? You betcha. 2 actually.

I cant get the game to preload, since I have Vista and steam has a n issue with the links that do the purchase and preload actions.

Next, it costs $50 that i dont have, because I have been doing freelance contract work for the past 6 months and have barely been making enough money to support us, let alone buy a game.

The silver lining is thta I have 2 (count them, 2!) interviews tomorrow for jobs, one offering some working from home, and an astronomical pay rate.

Wish meluck, both so that I can stop living paycheck to paycheck, and to let me feed my addiction for immersive interactive entertainment.

And in case Rod is afraid that my writing carreer ,may suffer, I am still at it, so dont wqorry. i have a kick ass new sci-fi comedy brewing that i think could have enough appeal to sell. Not too mention a series of short stories that share a common loose thread.

I played the demo and plan on picking up the game tonight.

Good luck on the job interviews.

What part are you on? I am dying for ep2, mostly because of Portal, but anything with Gordon has to be good. Plus, the wooded environment should make for a nice change.

thanks for the luck, i could use it.

Now, if I get one of the jobs, it will be beer and Bioshock :)

i played for a couple of hours but i got cramp in my hand, since then it has only been bits here and there.

i was playing farcry around the same time.

I havent played far cry yet, just the demo.

However, pc gamer just had an article on Far Cry 2, and I am getting jazzed about that. It is set in Africa and has nothing to do with the first one. Apparenlty, it will have real weather patterns, day and night, wind, and the most realistic fire to date.

Thats my problem....I usually start too many games at the same time and end up lagging behing on all of them.
