The problem with Avatars...

Every time I decide to change my avatar I make it, make it small, put it on photobucket, try to put it on here only to be told the remote file is too large. So I make it smaller and smaller until in the end, this is what I ender up with.

and it was still too big. Do any of you lot have this problem? I know some of you don't because you regularly change your avatar to something pretty complicated like the one __V__ had at halloween time. How do you do it?

I wanted to use my own avatar.

By the time you get it small enought, you need a microscope to see it!

AND THEN IT IS TOO DAMNED BIG!

I usually am not a quitter but in this instance I GIVE UP!

I had the same problem... What are we doing wrong?

Ditto. I'm thinking of messing around with the file types.

OK, here is how I did it.

1. Open a photo/picture in Photoshop.

If you don't have Photoshop, there is a step 0.5 or something :)

2. Crop the image so that you just have the part of the image that you want to use for your avatar.

3. Choose to "Save for web"

4. Set the number of pixels in size that you want you avatar to be (note that HDC has restrictions on the pixel size of an avatar)

5. Choose to save as a JPEG

6. Then set the quality of the JPEG until you get a file that fits the size contraints of an HDC avatar.

7. Save it

8. Go to HDC and change your avatar. Upload the image to HDC (or use photobucket etc but you can upload directly from your computer to HDC which is easier).

Any questions?

the avatar restreictions are pretty ridiculous, I wish I hadn't changed my nice big avatar.

I feel your pain. It took me forever to learn how to create an avatar. Sadly, I don't remember how I did my avatar. So, I'm of no help. I just wanted you to know you're not the only one.

When I first joined it was really really simple. You upload an image and it was done. But then they changed the whole website and since then...I'm sorry, I just got something in my eye.

I just got this as an error message haha

"Your file of 2.4 KB bytes exceeds the forum's limit of 2.4 KB for this filetype."

take two. Edit: Got it. Thanks for the help.
