Suggestions for the girlfriend.

So my girlfriend and I need some good horror movie suggestions for the age old reason that couples enjoy watching horror movies together. There are a number of specifications, though, which make this more difficult:
  • Not over-saturated with gore. Occasional gore is fine, but no gorefests.
  • No rape.
  • Nothing bad, as in so-bad-it's-good. Keep it respectable and well-made.
  • No Japanese horror, unless it's unlike usual Japanese horror movies.
  • No torture-porn (Saw, Hostel, etc.)

Here are some of our favorites to give you some ideas, listed in order of appreciation:
  1. [Rec] (Jaume Balaguero & Paco Plaza, 2007)
  2. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (Tobe Hooper, 1974)
  3. Halloween (John Carpenter, 1978)
  4. The Shining (Stanley Kubrick, 1980)
  5. A Nightmare on Elm Street (Wes Craven, 1984)
  6. The Thing (John Carpenter, 1982)
  7. Se7en (David Fincher, 1995)
  8. Zodiac (David Fincher, 2007)
  9. Alien (Ridley Scott, 1979)
  10. Wolf Creek (Greg McLean, 2005)
  11. Night of the Living Dead (George A. Romero, 1968)
  12. Dawn of the Dead (George A. Romero, 1978)

They don't have to be as mainstream as all that. Obscurer titles are more than welcome! Also, don't be afraid to mention more obvious titles.
