Mum & Dad

Just watched this the other night and I must say I (and the GF) really liked liked. Theres nothing there that you really haven't seen before - an inbred/incestious disfuctional murderouse family ala Chainsaw/House 1000 Corpses/American Gothic. But what makes this a little different is that its British and the family aren't hidden away in Southern Backwoods but live in the suburbs near Heathrow Airport...

The story bares more than a passing resemblance to the Fred West case thats played off as a black comedy. The acting is pretty good epsecially 'Mum' - its pretty nasty and grime too (like the retarded daughter hitching up her skirt when she thinks her parents are entering the room) but has some pretty funny moments like the mid-year Christmas celebration....

No doubt the media will pigeon hole it as 'Torture porn' or what ever new phrase they have to dismiss the horror genre..

Hmmmm. I'm intrigued. Reading some reviews on Netflix, it's being compared to People Under the Stairs and Severance, which is an interesting combination in and of itself (though I'm guessing that Severance was sillier in tone that this movie from how you described it). That coupled with your liking it to House of 1000 Corpses makes it sound promising.

Have you seen Frontier(s)? The only reason I ask is that, conceivably, that movie has been compared to the same bunch that Mum & Dad were compared to, but I didn't fancy Frontier(s) so much - Does Mum & Dad have any likeness to Frontier(s)?

Regardless, I'm definitely intrigued. Thanks for the req.

I really can't see any similarity really to Severence other than been British and it didn't remind me of the PUTS at all though its a long time since i've seen it. And yes the comedy moments are pretty grim it it.

I actually liked Frontier(s) though a lot of people didn't - This is a little more subtle and theres a lot of interaction/dialogue with the family.

Ordered this flick a few days ago, still waiting for it to arrive.

Looking forward to watching it - I've heard great things about this one.

Agree.

Saw it few months ago...not bad and not so good also. If you have nothing to watch then give it a try. I haven't seen anything special in this movie that can be compared with Frontier(s)..which was fast and more enjoyable than this one.
