Need computer help.

One of my laptops is messed up. When I turn it on, after about 5 seconds the screen goes black. I was wondering if there was anything I can do or do you think it's going dead? Thanks.

Oh and when it went black in the beginning I could see the outline of boxes. (Like if the volume control box was open)

Oh man, I'm an expert at fixing this problem by now. helped my cousin who knows shit all about computers fix this on her netbook. So if it's what I think it is do this:

Shut down your laptop.
Unplug it if it's plugged in.
Remove the battery back.
Hold the power button on your laptop for like 15-30 seconds. This drains the power left in the laptop.
Put the battery back in and plug it in if that's what you normally do.
Turn on laptop.

Let me know if that fixes it. I'd say most of the time there are screen errors on a laptop or netbook static is the issue.

If it's still broken take it to a computer repair place and see if it's something to do with the connection between the inner workings and the screen. Could be a loose wire in the hinge.

Alright, cool! It's staying on. I guess I have to let the power on the battery run down before I plug it bavck in right? Cause I just tried that, and it went black again.

hmm nope you shouldn't have to. Is your computer under warranty? if so so harm in taking it in for a look.

Alright, well whenever I plug it in, the screen goes black but if I leave it off the charger it's fine. I'll have it looked at. I'm running Linux on it now too, so I'll have to get it online. :)

Then it's definitely your battery. Check your setting for the screen contrast when your computer is unplugged. Might be something weird going on with that. It's not completely black right, you can see stuff behind the black?
