It's usually the mother that's being blamed, or the mother who is trying to save her child,The Babadook, The Exorcist, etc. Not always though, but a lot of the time. I just find this curious.
There's The Road, but I wouldn't say its explicitly horror. The film House has a father trying to save his son. In The Shining the father is the culprit though the mother does some saving. I haven't seen it, but there's also Maggie. The father caring for his daughter slowly becoming a zombie. The remake of Thirteen Ghosts has a father saving both son and daughter.
