There are plenty of ideas out there. I am suprised that certain stories such as Soloman Kane, Robert Asprins MYTH series, and certain Agatha Christie stories have not been made into movies or tv shows.
The problem there lies in public interest. There is no reason to make a movie that isn't going to profit. A select few people will make their way to see a movie that has so little backing. It costs millions of dollars to make a decent movie. There has to be wide appeal, there has to be an audience. I could name off a hundred books I would love to see on film but I cant say enough people would want to see it for a company to make money on the venture.

All of that aside, all your point did was solidify my stance that nothing is original. Turning books into movies isn't very original... Not to mention all of the people who would do exactly what you do with remakes "The movie wont do the book justice, they should just leave well enough alone."
