WACKEN (2014). Interesting look at the huge Heavy Metal festival held in Germany is put together and seems very organized; especially after watching the disaster that was Woodstock 99. A lot of veteran bands are featured like Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, Saxon (with Doro Pesch) and Rammstein. Also some up and comers, competing in a "Best Band" contest from around the world, as well as interviews with fans. And while there is drinking and some mild carousing, things appear to be a lot more temperate.
While I liked most of it, there is way too much footage of attendees whooping, grimacing and flashing the "Horns". Also, the band that wins the "Best Band" contest has NO footage at all , although the competition does
. I would have liked to have had a little backstory of how the festival came to be and the steps taken in it running smoothly. **1/2
