the fair is finally here.

yippie!!!!! the fair finally came to town, which means the first cold spell of the year is on its way. the carnival, or fair as we call it down south, has always been special to me because with it comes autumn. im sorry, but i just love this time of year, football, cool nights, harvest moons, and halloween. the leaves change colors. you'd be amazed, but down south, you see people going back to the old ways, almost "pagan" in nature. no offence, i just didnt know how else to put it. baptists and pentacostals and catholics somehow pull away from their beliefs and for just a moment, everyone is united. the old totems come out, jack-o-lanterns, scarecrows, etc... and everyone starts looking at the shadows just a little differently. and it all starts with the fair. and on top of that, if noticed some of the cable channels running the movie, Something Wicked This Way Comes. i love that movie, ranks high on my fav movie lists. ive watched it like 3 times in the last few weeks. just makes me long for days gone bye. my father grew up in the 30's and used to tell me stories of the old carnivals, with their freak shows. some of the stuff he told me still gives me chills. my favorite and worst memory of the fair was when i was about 5 or 6, there was a haunted house, and it was a walk-through. im sure it was real cheesey, but it scared the hell out of me at the time.well my brother and sisters took me in, and about halfway through, i was looking at something, and a man in costume came out and scared everyone. i ran one way, everyone else ran the other. i was instantly lost. i was in there for what seemed to be forever, and when they found me, i wouldnt talk to anyone for like 2 days. i had been terrified. every time i tried to walk out, the dick in the costume would come out and scare me back the way i came. now as an adult i would pay anything to be that scared, and every time i see a spook house i go in. what are some of your favorite memories?
