I think a sport would be defined as an athletic competition. You also need to work up a sweat.

Is bowling a competition? Yes.
Is it athletic? No.
Sweat worked up? No.
It's a game, not a sport.

Is baseball athletic? Yes.
Is it competitive? Yes.
Sweat worked up? Yes.
Sport.

Is tennis athletic? Yes.
Is it competitive? Yes.
Sweat worked up? Yes.
Sport.

Is golf competitive? Yes.
Is it athletic? Somewhat.
Sweat worked up? No.
It's a game, not a sport.

I believe this formula will hold true for any given sport/game you can think of, but I haven't taken the time to actually think them all through...

Anyways, cheerleading...

Is cheerleading comeptitive? Occasionally.
Is it athletic? Yes.
Work up a sweat? Rarely.
As you can see, it's a close one, but I'm gonna have to go with 'No.' It's not a sport.
