This is taken from IMDB:
Campbell is back, and O'Connor has got him!
The original version of the screenplay, "Humans in Chains," used to be posted at the writer/director Josh Becker's site, and it's pretty good. Becker is an alum of "The Evil Dead," "Hercules" and "Xena," not to mention classics like "Thou Shalt Not Kill, Except..." and "Running Time." He and Campbell work well together.
He's said this film is a combo of "Spartacus," "Planet of the Apes," and "Lawrence of Arabia," but Josh doesn't give himself enough credit. Granted, it's about astronauts returning to earth after a deep-space, deep-sleep mission, only to discover that the planet has been devasted, and humankind has been enslaved (the basic premise of "Apes.") And granted, Campbell's character leads a revolt of humans against their termite-like alien overlords (a la the other two films) but this story has a lot more to say. There is a lot of commentary on the nature of humanity - how easily we might be defeated, how easily we might lose our zeal, and what sort of human traits remain within us. Plus, while it's a straight sci-fi action thriller there's loads of humor and irony as well. Perfect for Bruce's sarcastic delivery.
