Lucky me, I am in NYC. It's my favorite city in the world! Tokyo, London, and San Francisco come in close afterwards. I plan to travel further to really research more cities though. Unfortunately i have no windows in my office area, but today it's very nice, sunny, and 45 degrees out, beautiful for mid-winter. Of course as Joey Ramone sang in Sheena is a punk Rocker, "New York City really has it all." or something like that :)
I'm preparing for a big rock n' roll show with my band tonight and expect all kinds of fun people to be there. That's a great thing here. A good music scene. Also a good art scene full of cartoonists. DC and Marvel comics have their offices here. The food is amazing and you can get great stuff cheap. Especially in Chinatown. Plus many good art theaters and video stores to find all your horror faves.
Of course there are the negative sides like high rent, dirt, and crowding. But I don't mind those things when there's so much to do. Crime is not as bad as people assume it is. You just have to be a little street smart.
The big news today is of course the New Year's Eve Times Square ball drop and wether it's safe to go or if people avoid it due to fear of terrorism. Personally I've never liked the Times Square New Year's scene because I do not like being in huge crowds of insane drunken tourists (don't like parades either, except the Halloween one is OK). Still I don't think people should avoid it if that's what they want to do. I live near the Brooklyn Bridge and sometimes walk home over it. It's a beautiful sight! I am just making ends meet and work very hard for it, but feel lucky every day for where I get to live. There are so many great opportunities, sights, and people to meet in the city. (I know I barely mentioned the museums, architecture, broadway, etc. all that stuff is great too!)
