I have become really fed up recently with movies that advertise themselves in trailers and clips as "horror" or "supernatural" and then turn out to be nothing of the kind. I love horror films, but advertisers of movies seem to be able to mislead us and totally get away with it. Here are some examples.

I shelled out my hard earned cash buying "The Village" on DVD which displayed itself as a scary monster in the woods tale and those of us who have seen it know it was nothing of the kind. What we got was villagers dressing up to scare the kids into staying put. What a LETDOWN. The trouble is you have to see it for yourself to make your mind up (would the sixth sense have been as good if you knew the end before hand?). The least we should expect is fair accurate advertising.

Then there was "Hide and Seek" advertised as a creepy invisible friend tale with people starting to die, OOooooooo, and what did we get, a run of the mill split personality thriller. I paid to go to the cinema to see that rubbish expecting horror, but getting ripped off instead.

Next "The Grudge", not Sarah Michell Gellers finest hour. Yes this is a horror movie I agree, but the description on the back of the DVD is nothing like the film at all. It describes itself as a spirit that consumes souls and has to jump from body to body to survive, but the film gave no relevance to that. I willl hold my hands up again and say, yes, it was a horror film though.

In any other form of advertising you simply could not get away with this, it would be "false advertising" end of story. However we spend out our dosh wether it be in the cinema or on dvd/video and deserve value for it, we deserve to get what we think we are paying for. I do know that one persons horror film is another persons comedy, what is horror to one may not be to another, but at least we should not be mislead into thinking we are going to see a horror when the film is obviously not (thank you Hide and Seek).

Well this is my first post here, but it is something that has annoyed me recently (can you tell). I would love to hear others points of view wether they agree or disagree.

Thanks for your time.

Keep it real
