Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Wrong Turn both fall into the hillybilly horror category more than slasher in my opinion. (Don't get me wrong, they are great. I just don't see them as slasher movies.)
I don't think there has really been a good mainstream one since the Scream franchise. If you want to find slasher movies that have come out recently they are going to be really low budget and straight to video type ones.
If you want to know where horror is heading, you should be looking at foreign horror, not American.
