Ironically, my first experience with Anchor Bay some years ago was bad. After that it was nuthin' but good!
I had bought their VHS clamshell edition of "ZOMBIE" in widescreen and Dobby Surround. The box just made me drool. This was back in...1997 or 98? Sumpin like that. NEway. So I get it home and the damn thing is in mono. Picture looks good but I wanted that stereo! So I thought goddamn! These Anchor Bay people are wacko!
They become very questionable to me for about three minutes. When I see that logo I cringe. But...they've got too many titles out. So I buy another one (DEEP RED, I think) and it looks and sounds great. Hmm, maybe that "ZOMBIE" problem was just an accident...
NEway. It's a good number of years and many Anchor Bay purchases later, and they are my favorite label, or one of my favorites, right next to Disney. Good programs, attention to detail, nice supplements, innovative and fan-pleasing packaging.
P.S. Dobby Surround is much better than Dolby Surround. It's crisp and clear.
