The Ape
James Franco (Spider-man, Tristan & Isolde) directs, writes, produces, and stars in The Ape. The Ape is about Harry Walker (James Franco), a struggling author who can't get past the first two words of his book because of the interference of his wife and son. So, he moves out of his house and gets an apartment for some alone time. Well, that doesn't work out to well ash he discovers that there is a talking ape living in his apartment (who's name is ape). Other shit happens (literally), but I'm not going to take up your time with the summary. On to my review. I thought
The Ape could've been much better, especially since it made me laugh from time to time. But, it's problem that bugged me was that the music didn't fit into the story at all and threw me off and the camera was very shaky most of the time. This is sad, because I like James Franco. I think he's ambitious (like his character Harry Walker in the movie) and really had something going here. Not only was this is a comedy (a dark one at that), but it had a melodrama feel to it too. Especially around the ending (which I won't ruin for you since I'm not that kind of guy). I just wish that Franco would've done a little bit better on the camerawork and the music, because it really pushed the movie off of the ladder. Pretty much hitting the floor. Better luck next time Franco!
2 and a half stars out of 5
