"What was that?" "Oh just a shooting star."
"They look just like us, thats the creepy part."
"In space, no one can hear you scream."
For a long time now, the unknown universe has held the fascination of the movie-makers and the movie-goers alike. When one pictures the earth all alone revolving by itself around the sun, which in turn revolves around the Milky Way, which IN TURN is a part of the ever-expanding Universe, the sense of claustrophobia grips hard. Are we alone in the universe? Or is there some form of life out there? The question is debatable.
Last time we had crowned Dawn of the Dead as THE definitive movie of the zombie sub-genre. Lets see which one takes the cake when it comes to the representation of the horrors of space on cinema.
This is a slightly bigger tourney than the previous one. I have shortlisted 64 movies into two groups of 32 each, which range from classic movies of the 1950s right into the millenium. Most of these movies have at least 1000 user votes on IMDB, and some of them have spawned sequels and remakes which have turned to be blockbusters in themselves.
Body Snatchers, for example, has had 2 remakes, all of which have been critically acclaimed, and so are a part of this tourney. So are movies which have been made for either direct-to-video or for TV. But I have left out movies like War of the Worlds, which is essentially a sci-fi/action/disaster movie (although its listed under sci-fi/horror at IMDB, but then, so is Robocop 2&3).
Taking the darker elements of horror under consideration, these 64 movies have been chosen. I am open to suggestions, so if any one wants to share their thoughts, or feel that a particular movie should be included in this one, feel free to PM me at anytime.
So without further ado, lets roll in the first matchup. Feel free to vote if I am not online to declare the winner (like in bwind's tourneys).
