The remake was OK. I remember reading that Savini wanted to make the gore as accurate as possible, which explains details like autopsy scars on chests.
It seems like everything was lit too well in the remake... I like shadows in my horror films. It also had kind of a made-for-TV vibe. The lighting or the acting? Probably both.
I did like Barabara being remade as a tough woman.
Did you notice that when Basement Daughter Zombie kills her mother the blood spurts onto a trowel? That's what she killed her mother with in the first one.
The original blew the remake away... don't forget what a shock it was for people to see that film in the '60s. There were also political undertones revolving around Ben and Harry that were lost or ignored in the new one.
