Husband of wife who was killed by bagel admits his part in the crime

CLEVELAND -- The husband of a woman who was allegedly killed by being forced to eat a bagel by a home caregiver has admitted his part in the crime.

Fifty-three-year-old John Amberik admits his part in stealing over $200,000 worth of insurance payments.

Amberik received the payments to pay for the care of his wife, Darlene, who suffered Multiple Sclerosis before her death. Amberik's former fiancée and caregiver to his wife, Wanda Canner, is accused of feeding Darlene Amberik a bagel, knowing it would kill her.

Even notes to the insurance company before Amberik's death indicated she could barely swallow.

John Amberik was not charged with his wife's murder.

Canner is also accused of collecting caregiver pay at the level of a licensed practical nurse. Prosecutors say she was not licensed. She's still on trial.
