I hated this movie and it really lowered my opinion of Roth, whom I was impressed by with Cabin Fever. This movie wasn't as nearly gory or scary as they advertised it to be. Maybe I've been desensitized over the years, but it was really lame.
The characters were completely unlikeable. Having the characters unlikeable is probably the easiest way to lose your audience. The plot was boring and just blah. As for the soft-core porn aspect, it was so forgetable to me that I don't even remember what they showed or didn't show.
Besides, this movie completely ripped off Troma's "Blood Sucking Freaks" (aka the Incredible Torture Show). It's practically the same movie except that it has actually has gore and nudity for 90mins and it's set in a theatre instead of a hostel. It has some humor in it, but it's pretty twisted and all in all a gruesome and relentless movie. I would check this movie out if you thought Hostel was tame.
