Hitchcock's first movie "The Lodger" being remade by Sony
Another Hitchcock film being remade - maybe we all have run out of ideas officially?
David Ondaatje has signed on to direct a remake of
Alfred Hitchcock's first film from 1927,
The Lodger, for Sony Pictures Entertainment. Re-imagined as an urban thriller set in Los Angeles, the film marks
Ondaatje's directorial debut.
Sony has not yet determined which of its labels will release "
Lodger" or if the film will bow straight to video.
Michael Mailer will produce alongside
Ondaatje, who also adapted the screenplay from
Marie Belloc Lowndes' novel. The novel served as the basis for
Hitchcock's 1927 film.
"
Lodger" is based on the true story of the hysteria caused by the Jack the Ripper's killing spree that took place over several weeks in 1888.
Ondaatje's adaptation is broken into two converging plot lines set in present-day Los Angeles. The first involves an uneasy relationship between a psychologically unstable landlady and her enigmatic lodger, and the second is about a troubled detective engaged in a cat-and-mouse game with an unknown killer.
Rogue bringing comic series "Lost Squad" to the big screen
Stephen St. Leger and
James Mather have found their way to
The Lost Squad, coming on board to write and direct the project for Rogue Pictures.
Adrian Askarieh and
Daniel Alter are producing.
"
Squad" is based on a Devil's Due comic written by
Chris Kirby and drawn by
Alan Robinson. The miniseries revolved around the supernatural action-adventures of a squad of U.S. soldiers who take on weird missions during World War II, fighting Adolf Hitler's occult agents and other threats.
The pair are riding into Hollywood on buzz created by "
Prey Alone," a high-octane 15-minute short they made digitally using actors and some hand props. It is that technique, similar to the fashion of how "
300" was made, that they plan to use in making "
Squad."
