I dig a good musical, but I've never been much of a fan of Sondheim. Set designs by Dante Faretti and costumes by Colleen Atwood make the world sumptuous and lived-in and the directing... top notch. Burton has got his groove back. The storytelling is efficient and beautiful and the gore is wonderfully over-the-top.
If you dig musicals and horror, this is a must see theater experience. If you don't like musicals this one probably still won't win you over, as I found the music to be the weakest element of the film.
