I used to live next door to a theatre, so I went by myself a lot. I didn't think it was weird at all. I was off of work during the day while everyone else was working so I'd just stroll over there and watch a movie. I didn't do anything special (like getting "going out" dressed), I was just bored and wanted to see various movies on the "big screen" and before they came out on dvd.
Some of my "things" about going to the movies:
-no talking. if the person I am with is a talker, they will never go to the movies with me again. this is also why I very rarely go see movies anymore.
-no walking in late. this includes if the previews have started. if the person I am with causes me to be late, see above.
-no popcorn. I don't eat it and I want to murder people who get the giant tubs of it and munch it loudly behind me for 2 hours.
-sneaking in snacks is ok, as long as it isn't a lot or anything real "loud" (crunchy, lots of wrapper things, etc.). sneaking in beers is definitely ok, but not something I've done in a long time. and for some reason, it's always the really dive cinemas where I did that anyway.
Back when I lived ina a bigger town, there were theatres that had "real" food and "real" drinks. some of them even had a dining room. one in particular had tables set up on a flat surface and ran old movies (including horror movies) while you ate and drank. it was fun. on Halloween one year they showed Friday the 13th part 3 in 3D and everyone got real tanked and real loud. That was a lot of fun. unfortunately, there's nothing like that here.
