Now, the real icing on this cake will be if the Republicans get their act together too and give us the other middle of the road candidate that hasn't been corrupted by Washington yet.... Norm Coleman (Senator, Minnesota) He used to be a middle of the road Democrat and then switched to middle of the road Republican and that alone should tell you he has no problem standing up to the parties. If we get Coleman vs. Obama in 2008, I might just find myself having some restored faith in our political system because those 2 both actually seem like real people when you hear them. They don't seem like puppets and certainly not like deceitful politicians. They both seem to genuinely want what is best for their constituants and the people of the country and I'd be happy to vote for either... |
I agree about the Obama justifications...but disagree about Kerry & Clinton. You said that they are too far left....not even....besides low voter turnout one of the reasons Kerry lost because for many he was left ENOUGH. And at the time, the democrats should've been working harder at defining themselves, rather than going on and on about what their opponents did vs. what they should've done; Remember just 2.5 yrs after 9/11 in the 04 elections, republicans were united. Democrats? Not exactly...some were converting to the other side. While others became what I like to call "conservative" dems voting republican on things like minority rights (ie-women, homosexuals, etc)
However thankfully unlike Kerry and Clinton he's done a magnificent job at balancing both; knowing when to not "bash" McCain's policies and records but indicate the tremendous flaws and highlighting substantial points as to why his may not be perfect--but much better than the staus quo; an d much better for the "average" [middle class] americans, etc.
Hillary when Bill was prez used to be able to do that; however at the time I belive '93 or '94, any Hillary Clinton supporters you can correct me if I'm wrong was a HUGE ADVOCATE FOR HEALTHCARE. Like Great Britain and France, she wanted universal Healthcare and had pretty good poliicies for ir. However, when your husband is a democratic president with a republican GOP it's very hard to get legislation you want passed. Anyway the republicans were pretty pissed at the idea of a first lady being "active" in the presidency in addition to her policy (republicans wanted to keep healthcare privatized and usually slash a good 60% of programs democratic presidents before them create) so they made a deal. Hillary essentially became "one of them." She accepted a $800,000 bonus, with "implied gurantee" she would secure a spot as New York Senator when Clinton's term was up, in promise she'd "keep her mouth shut by the bill and drop it." If anyone watches Michael Moore's documentary: SicKo--on US failing health care system you can get filled in on all the details.
However since then--especially in her campaign against Obama healthcare was always a strength of hers. She was even considering reforms for it. Thankfully if there are any Hillary supporters here she supports Obama, she spoke and gave her support formally at the convention; so please vote for Obama if want to stay on the democratic party. We need your help more than ever to secure the White House and encourage undecided voters to get out there at the polls. :)
