The thing people don't seem to get is that deductions don't always mean money in the hand. Less taxable income isn't too helpful to people who barely have any taxable income at all. A lot of people who barely eke out a living by doing things like freelance video editing or having two waitressing jobs don't get too much of a break from having less taxable income.
