1) Carved - Kuchisake-onna (2007)

Children tell the story of the slit-mouthed woman, a killer with a deformed face, surgical mask and very long scissors ready to slice up the kids while asking "Am I pretty?". As rumors of the woman spread, the panic in town grows and the rumors become true -- remarkably so, as they seem to come from nowhere. What is the origin of this killer?

2) The Ghost - Ryeong (2004)

The teenager Min Ji-won is suffering from amnesia and being haunted by weird visions. When she meets her former high school friend Oh Yu-jeong, she receives a picture of her high school group of friends: Kim Eun-seo, who had recently died; Shin Mi-kyeong, who is in the hospital and Eun-jeong. Ji-won questions who took the picture, and when she visits her former friends, she recalls Han Su-in, a girl that was badly treated and humiliated by their group, disclosing her past and the fate of Su-in and finding a scary hidden truth.

3) Eye 10 - Gin gwai 10 (2005)

In Thailand, Chongkwai is welcoming his friends Ted and his cousin May and Kofei and his girlfriend April from Hong Kong. While in a tourist tour, they see an accident on the road, and when they return to Chongkwai's home, they decide to tell ghost stories. Chongkwai shows them a mystic book with ten ways to see spirits and they decide to follow the procedures. When Kofei vanishes, April tries to fin him, while Ted and May runs back to Hong Kong. But the spirits do not leave them and insist to play with them. Ted and May return to Thailand trying to stop seeing ghosts.

4) The Maid - Kimyo na sakasu (2005)

Every year, for thirty days during the lunar seventh month, the Chinese believe that the gates of hell are thrown open. Vengeful spirits or hungry ghosts wander among the living, seeking revenge and justice before the gates of hell are closed again for another year." Eighteen year-old Rosa begins working as a maid in the house of the artists of a Chinese opera troupe, on the first day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar. Mrs. Teo advises her about their beliefs and how the dead should be respected and honored along the seventh month. However, Rosa sweeps their offer on the sidewalk breaking a basic rule and offending the spirits, and she is haunted by ghosts everywhere. When Ah-Soon calls her Esther Santos and she finds some belongings of the unknown Esther in the house, she discloses a dark and scary secret about the past of her masters.

5) Apartment 1303 (2007)

A modern ghost story which turns a love hate relationship between mother and daughter into a tale of horror.

We learn right from the start that something just isn't right about Apartment 1303. After watching one young woman fall to her death from its balcony, we are treated to the sight of another young woman who's seemingly normal one minute, anything but normal the next, and stone cold dead right after that. In the middle of a party celebrating her acquisition of such a great place at such a low price, Sayaka (Naoko Otani) suddenly develops an appetite for dog food, then dons a helmet and flings herself off the balcony. The only person who is not shocked beyond belief by this is a creepy little girl (the body counter). Whenever a victim nosedives from the 13th floor apartment, she's always there to point out that another one just bit the dust. Sayaka's sister, Mariko (Noriko Nakagoshi), experiences some harrowing little frights of her own after coming to the apartment to collect her sister's things. She soon learns that Sayaka was only the latest of several young women to leap to their deaths from the balcony of Apartment 1303. With the help of a detective, she comes to learn the story of Yumiko and her mother. Yumiko's story is an emotionally wrenching one. Apartment 1303 is all about atmosphere. At the center of everything is this terribly dysfunctional relationship between Yumiko and her mother. Not only is this the source of the haunting, it serves as a much darker reflection of Mariko's relationship with her own mother. That makes for a lot of psychological complexity.

6) Silk - Gui si (2006)

In Taipei, the crippled scientist Hashimoto uses his invention of "Menger Sponge" to capture the energy of the spirit of a child in an old building. He invites the specialist in reading lips, Detective Tung, to join his research team that is studying the phenomenon to understand the movements of the lips of the ghost. Hashimoto is trying to disclose why the energy of the ghost does not dissipate, and Tung discovers the identity and the dramatic story of the boy. He was sick with tumors and was killed by his own mother and buried nearby a nuclear plant. Hashimoto deduces that the rage of the boy for his mother associated to the location where the body was buried were the reason to keep the energy. When the government decides to shutdown the research, Hashimoto becomes insane and takes the spirit with him.

7) Arang (2006)

A salt storehouse near the sea may be haunted. A penniless ex-con dies a gristly death in a house he can ill afford. The detectives assigned the case are Min, newly reinstated after a suspension, and Lee, a new transfer from forensics. Min has nightmares: a sexual assault that haunts her. She and Lee work well together, but soon two more deaths occur - each mysteriously poisoned, both friends of the ex-con. A fourth friend, a newly married doctor, is a suspect. But what has all this to do with the salt storehouse, a death ten years ago, and a missing girl? Can Min and Lee get to the bottom of it, or is the supernatural beyond a cop's reach?

8) Cinderella - (2006)

Yoon-hee (To Ji-Won) and Hyun-soo (Shin Se-kyeong) are your ideal mother and daughter. One's a successful plastic surgeon, while the other your dutiful, obedient, and beautiful teenage daughter. Their relationship is like hand in glove, so close you'd think of them more as siblings rather than parent-child. But things start to go wrong (don't they always) when Hyun-soo's friends, whom Yoon-hee has operated on, start to go berserk.

9) Bloody Reunion - Seuseung-ui eunhye (2006)

A reunion of students who go to see their ailing teacher, Mrs. Park. Mrs. Park is delighted that these people have come to see her until she is reminded that she was not very nice to any of them while they were in her class and that they are all losers in life and not one came to see her because they LIKE her. Not a good realization for someone who is invalid and in a wheelchair. But, it seems that one by one, these students are disappearing, and the perpetrator appears to be wearing a cute bunny mask. Now, years ago, Mrs. Park gave birth to a deformed child that she kept in the basement, and he disappeared one day, but he often wore a bunny mask to hide his face...could it be him, returned to protect his mother?

10) The Victim - Muk lau hung gwong (1999)

A computer engineer is kidnapped and tortured. Since then, his girlfriend senses he's no longer the same person, and becomes convinced that something supernatural is corrupting his soul. The cop assigned to the case is also determined to get to the bottom of the case. The truth is more frightening than either had anticipated.

11) The Locker/The Locker 2 -Shibuya kaidan (2003)

The tragic event which drives the plot in this movie is said to have been inspired by an actual true case. Another relatively unique idea was to show a haunting spirit who "age progresses"

A coin locker in Shibuya City is the flashpoint where the curse originates, where anyone accessing it becomes marked by Sachiko's curse (much like the Saeki house in Shimizu Takashi's Ju-On). But there's a curious twist in that a couple of urban legends have sprung up around this public locker, one which recounts the tragedy involving Sachiko, the other suggesting that the spirit within its confines is 'beneficent' in nature and will grant the lovelorn luck & success in their relationships.

Being a direct continuation of the established storyline (a rarity for 'A-Horror' sequels), Shibuya Kaidan 2 picks up directly from the point where its predecessor left off, retaining several of the same key characters as they now go about on their own quests in an attempt to fit all the necessary pieces together to unravel and ultimately understand the origin of the curse -- and hopefully to figure out a way to break it.

12) Kwaidan - Kaidan (1964)

This film contains four distinct, separate stories.

Black Hair: A poor samurai who divorces his true love to marry for money, but finds the marriage disastrous and returns to his old wife, only to discover something eerie about her.

The Woman in the Snow: Stranded in a snowstorm, a woodcutter meets an icy spirit in the form of a woman spares his life on the condition that he never tell anyone about her. A decade later he forgets his promise.

Hoichi the Earless: Hoichi is a blind musician, living in a monastery who sings so well that a ghostly imperial court commands him to perform the epic ballad of their death battle for them. But the ghosts are draining away his life, and the monks set out to protect him by writing a holy mantra over his body to make him invisible to the ghosts. But they've forgotten something.

In a Cup of Tea: A writer tells the story of a man who keep seeing a mysterious face reflected in his cup of tea.

13) Nang Nak (1999)

Based on a Thai legend. Mak leaves for Bangkok and is seriously wounded in the Chiang Toong War. His wife, Nak, dies together with her stillborn child, but when Mak returns, they continue to live together, without his being aware that she is a ghost. The forces of the supernatural realm eventually prove that such co-existence ultimately leads to an unexpected resolution.
