The convention is held in April because:
1.) many of the attendees are either owners or actors in commercial haunted attractions, and they are simply too busy "during the season" to make a convention
AND (more importantly)
2.) many of the vendors offer customization to their product, and they need the time to create what you want. We have one vendor who makes corpses, you can walk up to him and say "I need a plump, slightly gray haired woman in her late 40's in her nightgown whose face, right arm, and right torso were all chewed off by a werewolf, and oh yea... add some claw marks to the left side" and he-can-make-it-to-your-requirements!!!
Custom products is one of the biggest draws to the convention. If you want to have the coolest Halloween party in the neighborhood, you don't want to have what everyone else has been buying at Wal-mart.
