Yeah, this is true with the Belgian strong ales for sure. The rounded big-bodied glass (like a snifter or oversized wine glass) allows the aroma of the brew to stay rolling around inside the glass. This way, when you take a drink, the aroma is nice and rich, adding to the taste of the beer. With a pint glass, the aroma is able to escape quickly from the wide mouth, killing some of the taste. With most other beer styles, the pint glass will work fine, but the Belgians are so heavy that the glassware really does matter.
