The Twilight vamps might as well not be vamps. They dont really drink blood, they can go out in the sun, crosses don't scare them etc. etc. They are basically just strong and fast.
If you have to go for the romantic yet dangerous vampire theme you should at least read Ann Rice. With that there is back story, plot, content, decent characters and the stories are actually well written with no gramatical and spelling errors like Meyer's books.
