El traspatio [Backyard] (2009)
It centers on a young detective (Ana de la Reguera) determined to solve a series of murders committed against women in the northern border city of Ciudad Juarez. Ciudad Juarez is a small town in Mexico along with the U.S. border where women have been disappearing, only to be found later raped and murdered. Though the numbers keep growing, seems like no one really cares. These women come mainly from the poor classes, cheap labor for factories of multinational businesses on the area, and these crimes are, at most, a nuisance to the authorities.
This Mexican movie from director Carlos Carrera focuses on that reality and made a decent tragic drama out of it. The Mexican film academy already selected "Backyard" as its foreign-language Oscar contender for the 82nd Academy Awards.

Never used to be a regular fan of the original series but only Hot Baroness outfit made it indeed pretty worth watching.
