chapter 2: The nightmare begins
february 15, 2013: 11:00pm , michael awoke in a cold sweat to find the door of his padded cell opening slowly, but there is nobody there, an ominous feeling overcomes michael almost like it is still a dream, but it feels so real, “maybe i do belong here”, michael says to himself. Lightning flashes out the one small window that is covered with bars, revealing the blood covered walls of michaels room like there has been a massacre, panic overcomes him. Michael slowly walks out the door. To find the hall littered with the dead bodies of patients, guards, officers, and doctors with their throats and wrists slit, some hanging from nooses on the light fixtures above, and some are laying on the hospital beds, with their chest plates cracked open, like they were operated on, by some mad doctor.michaels first thought is that he has to get out of here, but it is a huge sanitarium, sixteen floors and as wide as a football stadium and of course michaels on the top floor. What could have happened to everyone, and why did it spare michael? As michael looks closer at the bodies, he notices that one of the bodies has a note attached to it. Michael cannot grab it because he is still in his straight jacket; after a few minutes of struggling, michael pulls his best houdini, and finds his way out of contraption. He then reaches down and grabs the note off the guard, it reads. (guards note) " i hope my sacrifice in some way pays for all the torture and sickness, that is taking place here, i don't know what to do, i can't take living with what i know anymore. I know that their is no way i am going to make it out of here alive anyway. They have been drugging the patients, and trying to control them with experimental drugs, that they want to use on the public to make them more cooperative with their agenda, whatever that may be, but every drug they have used has just made the patients more violent, and a lot stronger, almost like its a steroid. We had a patient suffer some kind of fatal reaction to the drug that they delivered 2 days ago, and when dr. Rollins was harvesting his organs for examination of the chemicals effects after the patients death, the patients eyes opened, he sat up; with his chest cut wide open, and started attacking the dr. . . . He was dead, how was that possible. I unloaded my clip into his head, but the scariest thing is that it took four bullets before he ceased attacking the dr. . . . I was terrified at what just had happened, and i was even more terrified because, we had already administered the drug on all the patients in the entire hospital. We called the government branch that manufactured the drug and let them know what had happened, they told us to stop injecting the patients with the drug, and let them know if we have anymore incidents. Two days went by; and we started wondering why none of the other patients were dying, or showing any of the symptoms. We called the government branch back and let them know, we have not had any more incidents, and it might not have been the drug that caused it, and they sounded relieved and told us to continue. But then it started; i was on the 14th floor and one of my favorite patients johnny started biting himself, and banging his head on the door. He continued, until the glass broke, he then picked up a broken piece of glass, and began gouging out his eyes, he then reached down, cutting open his stomach, from his chest all the way down to his waist, spilling out his intestines’ all over the floor, he fell over dead. We called the police, they finally arrived to file a report of the incident, and take the body to the morgue; but as they started with the process, johnny got up and started to strangle one of the officers with his intestines’. In a panic, i grabbed the axe that was in the emergency case, and hit johnny in the head with it, stopping him instantly. As soon as i did that, all of the patients doors sprung open. And at the end of the long hallway i see dr. Rollins, covered in blood with his throat slit from ear to ear, pulling the emergency switch, releasing the locks on all the doors, and causing all the lights to go out, except a few emergency exit lights, and doing so with a evil grin on his face. Terrified; me and the other officers ran to the closest stairway, and as we started to head down, i notice that patients were coming up the stairs, so we ran up here to the 16th floor and barricaded the doors, had dr. Rollins taken the drug himself, why would he do that. Right now, the officers are trying to hold off the patients, but there are way too many and they are becoming unstoppable, im not going to let them kill me, that is for sure. If you find this let my wife and kids know im sorry, and i love them (end note). As michael finishes the note, he notices the gun in the guards hand so he grabs it, the gun is still warm, like it had just been fired “, is that what woke me up” “, and not the thunder, michael silently asks himself. He stands back up after crouching and picking up the gun. With the lightning flashing through the windows creating a silhouette on the wall in front of michael, he notices a man on a gurnee behind him, beginning to sit up. Michael quickly turns to see a man, with a completely ripped open chest, with no organs running at him. Horrified, michael empties his clip from his newly acquired gun, into the mans head bringing the man to a stop, the man falls on top of michael knocking him to the ground. Michael gets back up and scavenges, through the guard and the two officers bodies, trying to find more bullets, but there are none. He grabs an axe from the emergency case, and now begins his descent into the darkness.
