I'm sorry, didn't mean to have you post unnecessarily. I know you typed threads, I just wanted clarify which you meant before I elaborated. You're quite a precise poster, I should take it word-for-word.
Anyway, I like all three ideas. However, having admin/mod message boards for years, I know a debate thread/forum has major conflict pitfalls and headaches for moderators. Members, and even guests, will jump into a debate thread and insult the posters, races, religions, genders, etc, instead of addressing the poster's written position.
So I'll just throw this out there... on one of the message boards I created a debate forum that had it's own special rules. In order to post in the Debate Forum, members had to subscribe (register) for access, a page which required them to read & accept the forum rules. If they continued to break the rules, they lost access to the Debate forum.
These were the rules:
Quote:
This forum has it's own rules, and you are allowed to post here by permission only -- which continues only if you follow the rules:
1. Do not threaten or insult other posters, groups, or real people, alive or dead.
Examples of what is not allowed:
Other Posters: "John is an idiot." "I'm gonna hunt you down."
Groups: "Atheists are idiots." "Baptists should be shot."
Real People: "Moses was an idiot." "Robin Williams should be hanged."
2. If you disagree with a poster's position, then explain why. Do not post, "You're an idiot". Instead express something like, "I disagree with your idea on _____ because _____".
3. No pornography, overly explicit sexual descriptions, or general obscene material.
If you break any of these rules, your post may be deleted, you may be warned, your access to this forum may be removed.
